Completed 5.27.2024 *4 Stars*
Reread 5.27.2024
Rereading the early books is such a trip! There are the things you realize that I mentioned before (below?), but also how much character development has occurred since then and not just with Eve and Roarke. The Nadine in these earlier books is just a shell compared to what we see later. And we got to meet Peabody! I can't wait to read more to 'watch' her bloom. Is it a little strange that I can be so excited to reread this series again?!
Reread 5.31.2020
Loved this! Forgot that more time elapsed in the early books that it seems happens later in the series. Also forgot how hard it was for Roarke and Eve to come together despite their love for each other. So glad they worked it out! Can't wait to continue this first reread of the series. 🥰
2.26.2012
I really enjoyed this book! I love Eve and Roarke, they are so much fun! The audio version was very good and I look forward to the next one. Maybe, just maybe one day I will not have over 30 books to read in this series...

Weeks 1 through 7 - Complete!
Week 8 - Missing Danielle's Selection Post and several completions.
It's only Tuesday, so there is still time. But we are getting close to the end of the challenge so we don't want to fall behind. Remember to win, we need to have everything complete and then finish the last theme first!

Review
3 stars
I'm not running out to read more of these, but if you're looking for a short, fluffy, shenanigans and mystery this would be right up your alley. Add in a couple more contractions and this could have been 4 stars.

Week 9
Option 1
9. Small town
Read a book set in a small town
For location/setting tasks, the book does not have to be solely set in that location; it simply needs at least one scene set there.
The usual precise, main page, tag or list will need to be provided to show how the book qualifies.
In this case, it will likely be in the precis, on a list or tagged 'small town' or similar. 'Cozy mystery' will work since that should be set in a small community.
Please ask if you are not sure.
To insert links (book-link or list/shelf/tag-link) in your posts, please read these instructions in the Q&A thread:

Week #8

The Heart's Victory by Nora Roberts
Rating: 3⭐️
Review:
The book started well... Until chapter 9.....or maybe everything moved to fast.... And past this capter is was difficult for me to read because I lost that "interest" in the book.... And reading half a book in a day and the other half in 6 days says it ... (I guess if it wasn't for this challenge I wouldn't have finished the book so" quickly")

Murder at Queen's Landing
6/1
3 stars
I struggled with this one. The MCs were great, story telling was great, but the plot itself was riddled with too many details. There was unnecessary math and Econ in it, and I think the story would have been complete without these elements.

The Next Always
353 pages
Setting says Boonsboro, Maryland. The précis also implies a small town setting. “running the town’s bookstore”

Review:
It would be disingenuous of me to rate this book given that it's absolutely a case of it's me not you. I don't enjoy slow, low-angst, coffee shop contemporary romances because I find them boring and annoying. I mean Rae and Jackson are okay nothing to write home about just a couple of people living their lives. I want more action in the things I read and way more tension. There is zero tension in this!
If this book didn't fit in perfectly for two challenges I'm doing I wouldn't have read it.
Also, folked is a hard word. I kept pronouncing it foRked in my head.

The Next Always
6/3
4 stars
Pleasant romance with humor and a friendly ghost. Curious to read the other couple’s story and find out more about this ghost. Shall definitely continue reading the series.

I enjoyed that series, but I usually do like her trilogies/quartets.

Weeks 1 though 8 - Complete! (This is actually really impressive - nothing has lingered after a new theme more than a day or two.)
Week 9 - Missing PurpleLadi's and R~wka's selection posts.
And yay to Danielle and Aiswrya for completing their Week 9 books already!!
I will finish my book soon - I hope. But definitely before the new theme on Friday. We've had family staying with us since last Thursday - unexpectedly. They were visiting the week before, but when they went to continue their summer RV trip the RV died. The repairs will hopefully be done Wednesday so they can get back on the road Thursday. It has been nice to have more time to visit, but it has also made a big dent in my reading time!

How the book qualifies: from precis: "If you like the thrill of solving a murder, enjoy a sweet romance, and adore picturesque small towns with endearing and quirky characters, you’ll love these stories."

Me too! Have never read a bad Nora Roberts

Option 1: Week # 9
PTP 9. Small town

Number of pages: per GR 400
How the book qualifies.
From precis on GR:
Stranded on the side of a country road with a broken-down car, Rorie Campbell is grateful when horse rancher Clay Franklin comes to her rescue. Stuck in the quirky small town, Rorie gets to know Clay, and she quickly starts to fall for the gruff, tough cowboy. Can a city girl make it work with a country man? Clay certainly thinks so. But their situation is…complicated. Clay and Rorie will have to sort out their feelings if they're going to be together.

Reread June 4, 2024
Before starting this book I remembered it as being my least favorite of the series, despite what I wrote the first time I read it. After finishing it the second time, I am leaning more to my memory than my first review. It was enjoyable, but Clay and Lilly were not captivating. I'm glad they got a happy ending, but I just wasn't invested. Maybe there was too much else going on, both in the book and in real life. 🤷🏻♀️
Well narrated by Therese Plummer.

I really enjoyed this book! But then I usually like the Virgin River books, some more than others. This was a "more" book! =)
Clay and Lily were so sweet together and I was happy to watch them fall in love. There was some stupidity, on his part, and some stubbornness, on hers, but it wasn't overdone. It was also nice to see all of the old Virgin River friends!

Remember speed matters in the last week - the challenge is usually over within 24 hours, but often much, much quicker than that. Short books that you can get through quickly are best!
If anybody has a conflict that is going to prevent them from completing a book in the first 24 hours, give or take, after the last theme call please let the other teammates know in advance. I've been on a team where one teammate had prior plans but didn't let anyone know. The rest of us jumped through hoops to finish as quickly as possible only to have her come back later that weekend saying she had been occupied with a previous commitment.

It isn't tomorrow that we need to speed read, that would be the following Friday - June 14th. If you are working then and can read overnight, that should work though.

Is a good plan for the last week. I'll use it to. I'll finish my book for next week soon and search for short ones (100 page minimum?) for the next posible task. Will be 1AM for me when the task is anunced... If i can't stay awake, is ok if I finish it in the next 10 h?

I just didn't want some of us rushing to finish our books if another team member was going to disappear when the challenge is ending.

Jane, I think you missed Aiswrya's completion for Week 9 - message #222.

Week 10
Option 1
12. Glasses / gloves / hat / bag / phone / watch
Read a book with one of these items on the cover.
Sunglasses will count as 'glasses'. Winter gear such as mittens and beanies will work for 'gloves' and 'hat'. 'Bag' will also cover luggage/backpacks.
A clock will NOT work for watch. The items need to be things that may be packed for a holiday or travel.
In the case of 'phone', cell-phones (mobiles) count. I will also allow a handset that you would find in an office/home or a payphone, as these may be used to book holidays, flights, etc.
As proof, please post the edition's bookcover in your selection post that shows the items described above.
Please ask if you are not sure.

Week 9

Cursed Cookies by Cindy Stark
Rating: 4⭐️
Review:
Among the investigation of the case I see more romantic possibilities between Evie and her "forgotten childhood friend/love". I'm more interested in this story, although I think it will stretch into a few more books trough the series, the case was a weaker one than in the previous books (in my opinion). Yes, yes. I'm sure I'm continuing the series because I want to find out more. And her aunt in the body of a cat is very funny sometimes.
