YA 1980's Romance series. Read around 2021. First story centers around couple getting married.

Hello! I need help finding a romance series that I believe was written in the 80s. There were about three books if i recall and the first centers around a teen couple. One is heading off for college. At some point they get married. I don't know much else but I read the synopsis for book 3 and I think in this book, the husband has cancer. Any help finding this series would be greatly appreciated!
