One perspective is of an old lady in a nursing home-I think she is telling a reporter about her life?
In past timeline, a young woman gets married, ends up unhappy in her marriage. Her city gets flooded and her baby gets washed away. She runs away and lets her husband think that she died too.
She ends up working for a church or monastery. A boy was sent there because his mother got remarried. She ends up fostering him in her house almost and teaches him gardening. The boys enlists or gets drafted later in the book and she doesn't know what happens to him because she isn't his actual relative.
I think there were other perspectives too that I do not remember.
