Karen (rhyta) Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman I cry every time I read it knowing a certain character will be lost.

Most recently, parts of My Effin' Life by Geddy Lee.
My Effin' Life
The parts about how his parents met in a concentration camp and managed to live to marry and emigrate to Canada.

message 166: by David (new)

David N. | 4 comments As a boy, I was a sucker for dog stories, starting with The Call of the Wild, which dad gave me for my 9th birthday. I was hooked. White Fang, Big Red, Irish Red. Everything was going great, in my love affair with the dog genre, until I picked up Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls, at the library. The book was great, right up to the last several, tragic chapters. Mom and dad came home and found me openly weeping, which deeply concerned them, since I wasn't in the habit of crying easily. When I explained, through my sobs, what had brought on the waterworks, they were understandably relieved.
