Michele | 6349 comments Has anyone else noticed that, when you click "Combine Editions," the page shown doesn't have a "Prev 1 2 3 Next" at the bottom even when there are clearly more books not shown on that initial page? For example, titles may be shown only down to those starting with M, but if you use the alpha nav at the top you can get to additional titles starting with N, O, P, and so on.

Tawnya | 4040 comments Yep. That started for me back in January. I sent support a note. They suggested I clear my cache. That did nothing. I also tried using a different browser. Still no luck.

At first I thought it was a glitch with that particular author, but I picked another one that I had worked on back in November who I knew had a certain amount of pages. Even all of his were gone. Since he is an artist with several books teaching people how to draw the combine page didn't show anything after "D", and those were only half of his books.

Liralen | 8218 comments Yes, I have had the same issue. I'm not sure when it's started, but it's been going on for a while.

Michele | 6349 comments Super annoying :P I shall submit a request to support as well, maybe if we all do it they'll fix it lol

Olga Silvertongue (olgasilvertongue) | 6723 comments When I came across this, it was one of these:
- incorrect or empty "sort by title"
- not the Latin alphabet. Goodreads has problems sorting Cyrillic and other languages.

Michele | 6349 comments Interesting. The ones I've run across are just regular Roman alphabet. See for example https://www.goodreads.com/book/combin...

I reported it to GR Support and got a nice response that they were "escalating" it to the appropriate people, so we shall see :)

Tawnya | 4040 comments I realized that it stops showing books after the 100th title (not edition, those still do the pages-I made the mistake of looking at Victor Hugo OY! I am not touching that). One of the authors that I did in January had nearly 200 books. When I began it stopped showing the books beyond "P". As I worked to combine the ones that needed it I was eventually able to see ALMOST all of the alphabet. It now stops in the middle of "S".

Olga Silvertongue (olgasilvertongue) | 6723 comments Sorry, I misread your question. In my case, when I open editions starting with same letter, I see a lot more than I would like. That's what my answer was about, when there is at least one edition with a different alphabet, sorting does not work.
In this case, as Tawnya said, only 100 groups are shown. I think this was done on purpose so that Goodreads would not freeze.

Tawnya | 4040 comments There still used to have a page of another 100, and so on. I figured out that the message we get about an author having too many books to display stops being shown once you get it under 600, in other words 6 pages. At least it did for a few of the authors. Others have nowhere near that amount and still give the message.

It has sort of become a game to me. There are very few people who have actually written that many books, aside from anyone doing comics. Someone like Stan Lee with all of the titles he did, everyone one of which would have at least 12 different issues per year. When I was a newlywed we started reading Marvel. Just X-Men and Spiderman at first. But then a story would continue into a different title say the New Mutants or (my favorite) X-Factor. There was also Classic X-Men that would give some context to the events. Spiderman had three different books going that always had cross-overs. Dare-Devil crossed over into the Punisher. Silver Surfer showed up in The Fantastic Four. When all was said and done we were collecting over 20 titles per month. Then motherhood put a stop to all of that. Anyway you can see why anyone one of those writers would beat that 600 threshold quickly.

Tawnya | 4040 comments This is an example of what we are talking about:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/combin...

I did this page back in November. That was when I first saw the 600. This author's stuff was a mess. He had been in the default profile, so he had over 1000 books. After getting rid of the titles that weren't his I was left with over 300. I finally got it all straight and he had 154 different titles in 10 languages. Notice that the combine page stops on the "Kids Draw" titles. The man has books about Manga, so obviously there should be more.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 2197 comments I just noticed this happening recently. You can still access the other pages by adding ?page=2 to the end of the combine page URL (replace 2 with whatever page number you want to go to) but I hope they fix it soon as it's a bit annoying having to do a workaround.

Michele | 6349 comments Melanie, thanks, that's a useful tip for the time being!
