Makrand | 1353 comments Welcome to the The Reading Bench

Quite late to the 2024 party, i gather :P
I'll be posting reviews of all the books that I read during the year.

Touched a new low in 2023 with respect to reading books and i wish to change it this year for sure!

I talk at length about books that I've read & other rubbish too :P
This thread will have all such descriptions and logs which might help someone either take that book up or throw it out of the tbr pile :P

I love reading Fantasy, Mysteries, Sci-Fi's and books with pages less than 500 are always a charm to read

Please feel free to join, comment and stop by this virtual bench

Recommended Reads
Relic - Perfect page turner based in a museum. Thrilling & difficult to keep it down
Walking to Aldebaran - Love mind bending books that would give you a hard time? Disclaimer: One read wouldn't be sufficient

I have read The Girl who Played with Fire. It was my least favourite book in the Stieg Larsson trilogy. But others found it more interesting than the first book. It depends from person to person. I liked books 1 and 3 more. 2 was very slow in the beginning.

Feluda sounds interesting. I read a few stories when i was in 8th class.

Makrand | 1353 comments After a lazy lousy 2023, i finally managed to get back in my character and read what i couldn't in 2023.

I started off with Walking the Himalayas I knew Levison Wood's would NOT pull me down and I was right about it.
This travelogue is filled full of twists and turns and passions that is quite a treat to read. If someone is interested in reading a Non-fiction but not much inclined towards it, this is the book that should be taken up.

Relic is easily the book that has been sitting in my TBR pile for the longest time so naturally it was a much much anticipated read for me and thankfully it was the best book i've read in this year! Amazing plot line full of exciting characters and a mystery any book lover would love to read. Added a review here

Makrand | 1353 comments I picked up The Pearl as i wanted something short and quick. Again beautiful book, more on the lines of Ghachar Ghochar - Money (or the thought) of it can make one mad kind of plot. Review

I went out of my way and selected Walking to Aldebaran and it was a beautiful MindF*ck! Short novella with a deep story. Like other readers, it was fun to read this one however it would need some re-reads for sure. Checkout spoiler-free reviews here - Review

Hey Austin!
I had read similar stories about The Girl who Played with Fire when i checked a couple of reviews. Guess, I'll find out. 1 was definitely good. but if it's a slow burner, I might not enjoy.

About Feluda, like you, I have read only a few stories but it is super interesting so this time planning on reading the whole series!

Makrand | 1353 comments I have finally managed to start a book that I wanted to read anyhow this year. #3 part of Dune series - Children of Dune
While #1 had me blowing my mind and spending nights, #2 was somewhat mellow.

I am actively looking for a Buddy read partner for reading #3.
If anyone is interested, please DM :D

Hey !
Sorry i missed this message.

Definitely. I am planning on picking this up in the later half of the year. Have you planned any specific time of the year for this?

~~Poulomi Sylphrena Tonk$~~ | 873 comments @Makrand : Later half is fine for me, just remind me some weeks ahead of whenever you plan to read it. :)

Makrand | 1353 comments It took a month for me to finish Dune #3 Children of Dune and with this finally the Dune Trilogy has been completed.

It was great to read and finish this series. Inarguably the #1 was the best. There are more part to Dune however they can wait for some time.

Read about Dune #3 review here

Makrand | 1353 comments I wanted to read something quick and light and hence decided to start reading We Have Always Lived in the Castle
It seems like a good suspense!

Makrand | 1353 comments What was thought of as good suspense and horror turned out to be a sham. First silly book of the year award goes to We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
