A | 239 comments ive been taking french classes for 5 years now, and after having a dreadful teacher for 3 years i changed courses. now ive been since september in this class, and im failing it big time, plus i hate the teacher (its mutual) and i feel like im not learning anything. the classes are just doing exercises in groups, and what i need is to learn vocabulary and gramar. idk what to do, should i leave the course and try to learn by myself by watching shows or reading in french? i feel like its a waste of time, and all for nothing because theres no way i pass, and i want to focus more on myself (uni, health, reading...). what should i do, continue this year or just leave now? i really need advise

A | 239 comments also, im sure im not continuing next year, when i should technically do an official exam to pass to the next level, and i cant take it this year, so i feel all the progress i make will be for nothing

☆ Sofia ✧*。 | 177 comments I would just leave and focus on myself, u can start learning by yourself get some books on or in French. Hope everything turns out okay 🫶

personally if it was me, i would leave now! if you feel as tho you're not learning anything from it and it's a waste of time, and it's not helping your mh (because of the hate w the teacher) and you would rather focus on yourself and other things like uni, then leave! life is too short to waste energy on something you don't enjoy, especially if it's an optional thing. do yk what i mean? i hope this helps, go with your gut <3 watching shows and reading in french will still help A LOT and it will be a lot more enjoyable i imagine :)

if it genuinely makes you feel that awful i truly believe it's not worth it, there are so many more options to learn french and it's not worth destroying your mental health for!!

A | 239 comments everyone is telling me to leave it, but it doesnt feel right. its going to sound stupid, but i think its because ive been taking french for so long it has become a big part of my personality so i feel im like abandoning my baby or something. i just remember going to my first classes a few years back so fricking excited and now i get really anxious when i have to go because i dont have the same level of my classmates so i get really nervous when the teacher asks me something i idk how to respond or i get a bad grade

I would practice more outside of class. Start doing more vocabulary and grammar outside of class so that you feel more confident in class. I can tell you really love taking French and don't want to quit so I would put in a little more work into it. It's sometimes hard to make time for things but you can try and do more exercises outside of class and see if that helps you feel more confident!
