I nominate Devil in a Blue Dress. I've some read Walter Mosley books but none of his Easy Rawlins series. This novel won awards for best first novel (Edgar Award) and best first PI novel (Shamus Award).
I like this genre. I'd like to nominate a book by an author I haven't read before. I'm nominating Pop. 1280 by Jim Thompson. Plus it's been highly recommended to me by a friend.
Is it okay to nominate Gun, With Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem? It is set in Science Fiction world, but also fulfills the requirements for Hard-boiled/Noir. This book has been on my wishlist forever and I'd like to have a reason to buy it :)
I'll nominate The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. A classic of Hard-boiled/Noir with the iconic detective Sam Spade.
Flash Beagle wrote: "Oops! The Maltese Falcon is already on the bookshelf. Withdraw it."
Good choice but done, do you have another choice?

I'll nominate The City & the City by China Miéville. It's SF noir/neo-noir."Inspector Tyador Borlú of the Extreme Crime Squad finds deadly conspiracies beneath a seemingly routine murder. From the decaying Beszel, he joins detective Qussim Dhatt in rich vibrant Ul Qoma, and both are enmeshed in a sordid underworld. Rabid nationalists are intent on destroying their neighboring city, and unificationists dream of dissolving the two into one."
