Quick note that I've updated the Librarian Manual: Adding books to a new or existing series page with guidance surrounding series names. This change was discussed here. The article now states:

Series names

If you are unsure of the name of a series, a good first step is to check what series name is printed on the cover art of the edition. Just as with book titles, series names should match what is on the cover of each edition. If no series name is available, please check author or publishers' sites to see if a series name has been allocated. If there isn't one, Librarians can either use the main character's name or the name of the original book.
