Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments Fierce Dandelions is losing a member due to - - well life - - and they'd like to recruit someone else to join them!

If you didn't sign up for a challenge this year, but are anxious to play, please let us know. Books with Friends is not terribly demanding, and you can most likely dovetail your TBR with the options available.

Please PM me if you are interested!

Theresa | 15678 comments I hope everything is ok with Nicole! She will be missed in the game! And not just by her Team,.

Does this mean there are now 2 teams with 5 members each - Page Slayers and Fierce Dandelions? The other 3 teams each have the max number of 6 I believe: Tenacious Trailblazers, Sassy Sisterhood and Shadow & Flame.

So really, there is room for TWO more readers to join teams!

That's exciting!

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11140 comments Yes, we miss her! She’s having a tough pregnancy so she asked us to find a replacement. We hope she’ll be posting on PBT again soon.

I encourage all PBT members to join a group just to be a part of the game. You don’t have to be a heavy reader. If you like to read a couple tag books most months anyway, and can match one of the letters, that’s all it takes to play. We have back-ups for every letter, so there is no pressure.

message 4: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15678 comments Thanks for the update, Nancy.

@Nicole - so sorry to hear of your tough time, but what joy to anticipate! If you need support or distraction, a place to share or vent, just pop into the latest Kaffeeklatsch. We are all there for you.

message 5: by Rachel N. (new)

Rachel N. | 2250 comments I hope Nicole and her baby are fine. If there is more than one person interested in joining Page Slayers would welcome another player. We're a very low stress group.

message 6: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments Tenacious Trailblazers are also just five. Also low stress.

message 7: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15678 comments Wow, there are 3 teams with room for another player!

message 8: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9252 comments I hope all goes well for Nicole and her baby are fine in spite of this tough time.

message 9: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimkienzle) | 74 comments I am new to the group and would be excited to join a team but can you tell me where I can find out what the rules/expectations are so I can pick a team that works for me?

message 10: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15678 comments @Kim - here's a link to the thread with BWF Final Rules

Not sure just how to hook you in to figuring out what group you might be most comfortable it. Maybe look at the individual and team tracking for January and February for each team and see where your level of reading fits most comfortably? Also look at January Team Results - a separate thread. You will find those threads under Activities topic below.

Or maybe just ask a few questions and ask the team reporters for Page Slayers, Trailblazers, and Dandelions to answer. Or ask them to pitch to you here. I'd probably go the question route personally - i.e. how do the readers breakdown between heavy, light, book club reads only, very slow, etc. readers.

The basics are that each team was formed up by members organizing themselves. Team size could be from 4 to 6 members. Both Sassy Sisters and my team, Shadow & Flame are at the maximum of 6 members. Teams Page Slayers and Tenacious Trailblazers have been set at only 5 members since January 1. Fierce Dandelions had 6 but have now dropped to 5 members.

One thing I know for sure: you will be very welcome wherever you land.

Lyn (lynm) | 1152 comments Hi Kim! Welcome to PBT.

You can find the rules for Books with Friends here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I am on the Page Slayers team. We are a very laid back group, and none of us are highly competitive. We all read one or two books a month for the challenge, and another extra one or two. We aren't in it for the points or the glory, just for the fun and the challenge. We finished January in last place, and all of us were pleased that it was only by 2 points! If you are looking for a low stress but supportive of each other team, consider us, we would love to have you join us. If you are looking for a highly competitive team, we aren't it.

message 12: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments Kim, I know you have your choice of three for five person teams but we are the tenacious trailblazers and we would love to have you with us if you would like to join us. Either way, I still look forward to meeting you and getting to know you and I’m very happy that you joined PBT because I think you will find all of us areally great group.

message 13: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4105 comments It’s so brilliant that you want to jump in, Kim! Fabulous to have you. Do it, do it! Just learn the ropes as you go along.

Honestly any of the 5 player teams would be great. Roll a dice to decide! This is such a friendly group. And the competition element is just a bit of fun, and a little bit of extra incentive to read some books that we’ve been wanting to get to (or get back to in some cases), or to read some things that we never usually think of picking up.

I have had my two best ever reading months since I joined PBT with this challenge - not just in numbers but in quality of books. (Ok yes I am rereading the Twilight saga at the moment because I planned to this year anyhow and work is stupid and my brain is dead, but I have some *good* books lined up lol).

message 14: by Theresa (last edited Mar 04, 2024 04:57PM) (new)

Theresa | 15678 comments I also want to say that you need not worry about mastering the rules up front - your team will help you through that. And we each know personally that it takes a little time to master them! 😏

Also, as Kate says, for many of us it's a great way to get to some of those books in the TBR -- whether mountains, towers, shelves, piles on the blanket chest or nightstand, or an enormous library waitlist or ebook library -- and there have been treasures to be sure.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11140 comments I’m happy to announce that Jen Mays will be joining the Dandelions team. I encourage Kim and other (new and old) menbers to jump in and join a team. The game is more relaxed than many of us expected.

Welcome Kim! I am one of the administrators for PBT and also for this particular challenge. Feel free to send me a private message if I can help you get started/situated with a team.

If you are still having trouble deciding on a team, you can always flip a coin. :-)

Looks like Page Slayers and Tenacious Trailblazers are the two teams left with only 5 players.

message 20: by MelanieJoy (new)

MelanieJoy (ladybird11) | 130 comments They both seem like great teams! I flipped a coin and I got Tenacious Trailblazers. Feel free to put me in touch with the team. Looking forward to the challenge!

message 21: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments Melanie Jo, we are thrilled to have you. Our leader is HayJay, (Hayley) and she can make the connection. Seems that if Kim joins the Paige slayers, now, all teams have six members. I was a little worried that one of the teams would be left with just five. Melanie, Seemed you did the entire challenge a favor by equaling us all out. And one of the best ways to make new friends in a group it’s by joining a challenge and jumping right in. We all look forward to getting to know you. Not just your new team, but your new community.

Hi MelanieJoy!

Tenacious Trailblazers are thrilled to have you join! Once you have accepted my friend request I'll get a group invite sent your way.

Also, you can find all the info for the Books with Friends challenge here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 29: by NancyJ (last edited Mar 08, 2024 08:43AM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11140 comments Yea! Welcome to PBT MelanieJoy! And congrats to you and Tenacious Trailblazers. Enjoy the game. If you have any questions, just ask on the chat thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If you need a jump start to find a book to fit this month’s challenge, you can find many eligible books here on our listopia:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Vote on the books you liked or want to read. If you click on “5 people voted” below a title, you can see who voted for the book. Below the list you can see all the voters. If you click on a name, you can see what books they voted for. This might help you find members with similar reading interests. This is new, so we don’t have everyone’s votes yet, but it should save you some time.

This is a wonderful group and I hope you enjoy reading with us.

I'm hoping kim is still hoping to join, so that we also end up with 6 players!

Kim, let us know. :-)

YAY! Welcome to Page Slayers!

message 40: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4105 comments Brilliant! I’m so glad all the teams are full!

message 41: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15678 comments WOOT! A full complement of 6 member teams is just fantastic!

Kim & Mel - it is wonderful as newbies to plunge right in! I joined in August 2018 and a mere month later was in buddy reads organized by Amy and deep into Fall Flurries challenge. It was the best way to go.

message 42: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11727 comments Just thought I'd add that I think a team game is a great way to get to know some of the PBT members. Hope you all enjoy the game!

I am going to move this thread into the Activities and Challenges folder in case the need to recruit players occurs again in the future.
