Just finished The Dreamthief's Daughter by Michael Moorcock, the first in this omnibus The White Wolf: Volume 3: The Dreamthief's Daughter, The Skrayling Tree, and The White Wolf's Son. One of the stronger entries in the series so far.

Agreed. What differentiates it from other space opera isn't the relationships of the main characters, but rather that the author takes a big swing in the middle of the book. It turned from feeling like YA-dystopian space opera into something better.
