Fable: A search for a feather that leads the character through a field of diamonds but with threatening giants

If I remember correctly this is a small/short book about a person (boy I think) who discovers a feather and then goes on a journey…
The book cover had a feather on it. A white book, a white feather.
I think it also has some Christian ideology in it, perhaps? I read it 15yrs ago, but it was an old book then… maybe from the 70s?
A philosophical book.
The chapter about the giants discusses how we might find ourselves in a field of opportunity (diamonds) but there are giants. The giants represent people who may care about us but dont want us to undertaking change and growth because of the fear they have.
