No question Fay! Just picking up on your statement of: "Before sin, humans would have lived forever. There was no death. Then, humans sinned, ate the forbidden fruit, and death came into the world." That's all. ;)

There was no death though in the beginning. Sinning created death. Their sin resulted in being condemned to Heaven or Hell.
I'm sure there were dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden.

They died later after they ate the fruit, yes, not immediately.

Harry Whitewolf | 1745 comments I see it as this:

The knowledge that was offered was knowledge of the material world and of self awareness, it wasn't the knowledge of God. Therefore any knowledge of the material world is evil- hence the Christian perspective that Satan runs this whole place (to paraphrase!).

http://www.christiananswers.net/q-ede...

I don't know really what happened after Noah saved the dinos since I wasn't there...

The tree was located in the Garden of Eden. Once Adam and Eve ate the fruit, they were banned from the garden. I do not know if animals were also banned from the garden or if they ate the fruit, but animals do not have souls so eating the fruit would not make a difference in their knowledge. Anyways, God did not command the animals not to eat the fruit, He commanded the people not to eat the fruit. So I don't think it would matter if the animals even ate the fruit.

message 169: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Um....animals do have souls...they think too!!!

message 170: by Laureen (new)

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 478 comments I have never understood why "God" who issue such a directive. What is your interpretation of the Tree of Knowledge Fay? Why would knowledge be harmful or banned? I always assumed that Adam and Eve had sex - the tree is often depicted with a snake in it.

And then, if they had sex, which is far from evil in my mind as it is necessary for human procreation a very human trait, why does that follow that the devil was involved? Also where did all the other people in the world come from? The American Indians, the Eskimos, the Australian Aboriginals etc not to mention the black Africans?

I really can't see how the beginning of man came directly from Adam and Eve. That would make us all inbred wouldn't it?

Animals think but they do not have souls. They are different than humans. We are made in God's image (with a soul), animals are not made in God's image (without a soul).

message 173: by Catherine (new)

James Morcan | 11380 comments Following on from all these discussions about the (metaphorical) forbidden fruit mentioned in the Old Testament, I recommend the essay by my friend Professor Richard (Rick) Spence: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I tend to believe that Rick Spence's summary of Adam & Eve is the correct one - that there would be no form of knowledge that God would not want Man to know.

Knowledge is always empowering.

Axam & Eve did not actually exist....and neither did the Garden of Eden.....it is a fictional story of how we cam to be how we are....and the r3st of the Bible is all stories as well...,it may be based on facts that occurred...but it is not a biography of our history.....

and nowhere in the Bible are dinosaurs mentioned....

you insist that dinosaurs existed more recently, Fay, but then what about Neanerthal and Cro-magnon man?

Fay, I think you need to be more discerning in who you listen to. I grew up with animals on a farm. We had working dogs that were also much loved. Back in those days there was no medicine for heart worm, a constant threat to dogs in particular. I remember our dog , Laddie, a blue healer who contracted heart worm. On the day he was to be taken to the vet, a rarity in those days, he came up the back steps of our farm house, into a hallway which held the bedrooms and nossled open my father's bedroom door where he was dressing to take the dog to the vet.

Laddie had never been inside our house before. Farm dogs were disciplined and knew they had to stay outside. He gave my father this sad eye contact and then walked back outside.

Later, like a few days, my father finally found Laddie. He had said goodbye and left to die in the bush alone. That dog definitely had a soul.

I am sorry that happened to your dog....especially since he might have been cured (although the treatment is also deadly). But I also know animals like to hide when it's their time. They also like to go with dignity. I work in an animal hospital and see animals euthanised all the time, and it's heartbreaking. But sometimes it's the kindest thing to do.

I have had loads of animals in my life..and each one has been very special...they all had different personalities, and I loved them all.

message 180: by Laureen (new)

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 478 comments Thank you Catherine. It was a long time ago but the memory still leaves me with a special feeling. A couple of our dogs got bitten by snakes as they were always on hand to protect us as kids. However, I believe all our dogs
were happy and loved the farm life unlike many urban dogs. I always feel sorry for them. Animals are so full of life. We could definitely learn from them.

Is there ever a better sight than a dog traveling along with his tradie carer either in the back of his ute or beside him in the cabin. Tongue hanging out, eyes excitedly taking in the scenery. Oh, what a life!

message 181: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Haha! I didn't grow up on a again, but my mum did. We've always had pets though...here in NJ....we don't let our pets ouside.....dogs only on a lead....because it's far to dangerous...but in Shaftesbury..in Dorset....we let our cats out daily..

Yes..I agree...it's great watching dogs with their toungues hanging out trying to catch all the interesting sniffs! With their ears blowing in the wind.

You're being naughty James. If you believe in duality, maybe Henry K has a little more of the Devil than the God side to his nature, but he still has a soul.

Me? Naughty?
Never!

And you're right, Kissinger still has a soul...
In fact, I'm sure you'd agree his soul was shinning brightly when he made this on-the-record comment that was revealed in a recently declassified National Security document: “Depopulation should be the highest priority of US foreign policy towards the Third World to secure mineral resources for the US.”

Besides that, yeah, I believe in duality and think Good vs. Evil arguments are way too simplistic.

Has anyone considered the dinos vacated the planet as they knew Kissinger was coming?

James Morcan | 11380 comments Krishna wrote: "mass suicide??"

Yes, like the Jonestown version of dino history.

I have no idea what the Cool Aid equivalent was back then, but there had to be something.

Maybe the dinos were Nostradamis-style psychics who foresaw Kissinger and other elite assholes coming and decided if that was what humanity was about they were better off to vacate the planet before humans arrived.

Yeah, well unfortunately we have Henry Kissinger thinkers all over the World and within every portfolio. They come with our learning experience here on Earth. We are supposed to deal with them in a humane way and set an example of peaceful ways to advance the quality of life for everybody.

Hasn't Henry K heard of the Global Economy? I thought we were supposed to be thinking globally these days. Not only must we stop thinking about what's best for ourselves or our own Nation but for the rest of the World?

Animals do not have souls... sigh. Trust me, I have had several pets, and have seen them die, and I loved them so much. I don't know if animals go to Heaven, but they don't have souls. I know that much.
I totally agree that humans reason, and that animals follow instinct.
But, animals just really don't have souls, sorry to break it to you. If they did, then they would either go to Heaven or Hell depending on if they believed on Jesus' death and resurrection. But, animals can't decide whether or not they want to believe in Jesus and His death and rising.

message 200: by James, Group Founder (new)

James Morcan | 11380 comments Dinosaurs had souls but unfortunately they all died before Jesus even appeared on Earth so all dinos now live in hell.
But they are waiting for the Big Freeze (sequel to the Big Bang scientists predict) to occur to cool down hell and make it more liveable.
In the meantime they will keep partying in Hell with Satan and they don't mind too much.
