What really happened to the dinosaurs? And how come the Bible doesn't mention dinosaurs? (A satirical discussion thread from deep inside the Underground mental asylum - DISCLAIMER: consult with your shrink before reading and post at your own risk!)

I've had the same thought. A comet impacting all sectors of the earth is not plausible; nor can any disaster wipe out all such life.
The ratio of a cat and a tiger is an indication species of one feline group can change downward in size, with very large ones becoming obsolete. The earth would not cope with large sizes due to lack of food, habitation, agility factors, so they could have simply de-evolutionized. An interesting issue here is the imprints of small cats millions of years ago - these have not been illustrated. The comet theory does not figure here - these are lifeless space debris.

Like a Jonestown style thing where all the dinos thought "let's go out with a bang"...

You think just because I've made a few (well okay, more than a few) dino jokes in this group in the past, that this is gonna be some silly fest of lousy jokes....."
I- Okay you guys, I'm not even gonna get started on the whole millions of years thing again, you know what I think.
So really, I don't know a lot about the dinosaurs and how they went extinct. I mean, maybe a changing environment did not go well with specifically adapted dinos so they started to die off. I just, don't know...

Well, Fay, you've actually brought up an interesting sub-topic that I was planning to bring up myself.
So let's kill two (dino) birds with one stone in this discussion thread and also cover what happened to those 10,000 year old dinos as well...
What happened to those dinos and how came (according to Christian fundamentalism) they survived when the original dinos became extinct about 65 million years earlier? ;)

Incredible imagination? I think you've got the wrong person, Laureen...I'm just a professional agitator and tell lousy dino jokes, that's all.
Harry is the great writer amongst us...Plus he is a good artist, so he can handle the book all by himself.
Harry: I suggest you title your book: How the dinos became extinct 65 million year ago (then also died out a 2nd time 10,000 years ago)
That way you can cover religion and science all in one book

Well, Fay, you've actually brought up an interesting sub-topic t..."
See James, I don't really know a lot about dinos. I would absolutely love to be a "dino professor" so I could debate and such about them but, I'm not.
All I know is that dinos must've lived, and gone extinct, in the 6000-6500 yrs old the earth is.
And that's all she wrote.

Yeah, I think dinos and humans at one point in time existed together.
And now for real, that's all she wrote on this discussion. Just- I'm gone. (Like the dinos, eh?)

No kidding ;)
To be honest, I think dinosaurs alone completely shatter Christian fundamentalism's viewpoint that the world is only 6,000-10,000 years old. And I should reiterate only about 5% of Christians worldwide (and maybe 10% of US Christians) believe the Earth is only 10,000 years old and that dinos were around that recently. These are biblical literalists who add up all the life ages from Adam onwards that are listed in the Old Testament.
But the fact is anyone with an open mind (who researches independently of fundamentalist teachings) can see that the Earth is millions of years old and that there's not a shred of evidence to suggest dinos lived with humans. For example, no humans ever painted dinosaurs for example - there are no cave paintings or anything in human culture revealing dinos shared the planet with humans...
So I would politely advise you Fay to maybe research things like the dinos (who became extinct 65,000,000 years ago) and the Australian Aborigines (who have existed in my country for 50,000 years) or astronomy which shows the universe is billions of years old.
Studying history and science can expand our horizons, especially religious people and people born into devout families. And I'm not picking on you as we all have limited beliefs that need shattering - for example, numerous members in this group have posted intelligent comments that have made me completely rethink and replace my (erroneous) beliefs on various subjects.

Yeah, I think dinos and humans at one point in time existed together.

Here's a little video for you: https://www.goodreads.com/videos/8108...

"For example, no humans ever painted dinosaurs for example - there are no cave paintings or anything in human culture revealing dinos shared the planet with humans..."

Again Fay, that website is a Fundamentalist Christian perspective i.e. a weird niche of Christianity that still maintains the original Christian worldview that the religion on the whole has since discarded (just like it discarded many other erroneous scientific beliefs).
That website is also trying to make the dinosaur issue disappear and blame it on Darwinists...But the thing is, I'm on the fence regarding creationism vs. intelligent (ET) design vs. Evolution - so I'm definitely not some hardcore evolutionist...You don't need to be an evolutionist to see the dino fossils and virtually everything else in modern science totally destroys these Victorian-era beliefs that the world is only 10,000 years old...
The key fact remains:
If you believe the Earth is only about 10,000 years old, then the dinos must've died VERY recently and lived side-by-side with humans all over the planet. Like, everywhere!
And dinos would have been a massive threat to the population and been a daily issue of survival.
Yet there's NOTHING in recorded history that shows any humans during these times knew of dinos at all. They never wrote or painted them - because they did not know of them and because dinos never lived with humans...
So of course anybody with rigid and limited beliefs (and we all have these on various subjects) can continue to try to keep forcing all the contrary evidence into a very dated obscure belief system and somehow attempt to make it all make sense.
Or, alternatively, one can broaden their beliefs to match the overwhelming evidence.
As a member of this group, and a wise member of the underground, I have faith that on this issue you will eventually choose the latter option.
Peace out in memory of the dinos (the 65 million year old ones and the 10,000 year old ones)
:)

Yep, am aware of those cave paintings but mainstream scholars believe they are not paintings of dinosaurs. It's similar to how ancient people painted dragons - the theory is these are mythological creatures.
Key point Fay is that you're posting articles by Christian fundamentalists (aka extremists in Christian sects) who are extremely biased obviously. Someone so biased is looking for evidence to fit their belief system. One can always find obscure evidence to support some extreme theory, even one that suggests the world simply evolved to where it is now in only a few thousand years.
Bottom line is your beliefs of a 10,000 year old Earth and Universe have to discard all of archaeology, all of astronomy (which says the Universe is 13.8 billion years old) and disregard certain races of peoples like the Australian Aborigines.
Don't worry though, the crisis you're facing of rigid faith versus overwhelming scientific evidence is something the Church officials in mainstream Christianity faced about a century ago. They wisely decided at that point they have to adjust their beliefs as obviously this 10,000 year old belief is erroneous. As already stated, mainstream Christianity totally disagrees with your beliefs.
Most of the Christians who still promote the 10,000 year-old Earth theory are in sects like Jehovas Witness, Seventh Day Adventism and Mormonism too I think. Plus a lot of cults as well. There are a small percentage of those in more mainstream Christianity who believe such things, but it's pretty rare.
So Christian Fundamentalists will eventually catch up...they are just a little slower...or maybe they like to procrastinate...or maybe they're just very stubborn ;)

Seriously? What were you thinking? ;)
Those T-Rexs with the long pencils won't be happy when they hear about this...

Is that a satisfactory answer to keep both sides of the Dino/Fundamental Christian debate happy?
Probably not.
Ah well, what the hell then, I'll just state my point of view again: no waaaaaay is we 6000 years old man!

Now as to where that catastrophe came from and whether there may have been a guiding hand in it...

"
Funny thing is Robert, when I first glanced at that picture, I thought he was sitting amongst the roots of an ancient tree. Talk about things and ideas being in the eye of the beholder!

...why not. :)

Is this scientifically sound??

So you're implying the dinos may have also had time travel technology Krishna?

"For example, no humans ever painted dinosaurs for example - there are no cave paintings or anything in human culture revealin..."
So, although I'm with the official story of the age of the earth and humans having not co-existed with dinosaurs, I can still play devil's advocate, 'cos these pictures that Fay posted are very interesting- now, James, I think you probably were right when you said they're pictures of dragons- but I have always wondered this:
Why do we scoff at the idea of dragons having once existed, when we have a plethora of ancient art and stories AND some rather massive bones- that we just happen to call dinosaurs? What if we'd called them dragons instead? We'd be saying 'we do know dragons existed because we have found their bones... there were a lot of different types of dragons than first thought..." etc.
The Dino/Dragon conspiracy?

You're stirring up trouble, Harry :)
But actually, I do think it's unusual that dragons have been painted by so many different civilizations all over the world - everywhere from Wales to China...And I also think it's possible there were some humans around during dinos as they keep finding remains of humans older and older (oldest so far is millions of years old I think).
However, I didn't want to mention any of this at the time to inadvertently encourage Fay in her 10,000 year old Earth theory...False hope is never a good thing ;)

Apart from the fire breathing, what exactly is the difference between a dragon and a pterodactyl?
(Did they hatch from Easter eggs?)

No Krishna. That is not the correct scientific name.
This is:
Time travelling, easter egg munching, fire breathing, suicidal dinos :)

There's gotta be a bad B-movie called that somewhere."
Already in the works, mate...Why else do you think I'm doing all this sophisticated research?
Research which is beginning to reveal what happened to the dinos...
p.s. Need an Ed Wood-type director for this movie.

Unfortunately, no Harry.
In producing this movie we need to think commercially.
It won't be an artistic venture, but it can make a lot of money at the box office.
Therefore, we need the prettiest, sexiest dino actresses...I favour females in all the lead roles.
So think Little Women meets Baywatch meets One Million Years B.C.
:)

Ha!
I ain't cool enough to be "the Hoff".
Then again, nobody is...

YES. Ed Wood for director. He is such a good, eccentric dude, he could also act in the movie. A John Wayne type Dino who tries to save their species, especially those beautiful Dino girls.

Definitely - and one further problem: With this movie we are going to break the (boring) traditional of Hollywood only ever casting Size Zero women: Instead, we only cast curvy females...curvy female dinos that is!! So the bikinis need to be able to stretch quite a bit...
Is this getting in the realms of "too much information" yet?
And has this thread destroyed any credibility the group had??

Nah, no credibility lost here. Laughter is the spice of life. All the subjects we discuss are so serious, we need some light relief!

side to side strut always works...from my perspective at least!

You think just because I've made a few (well okay, more than a few) dino jokes in this group in the past, that this is gonna be some silly fest of lousy jokes...
Well, you're pre-judging.
So give this topic a chance!
This could be the beginning of a serious debate.
Real science.
A proper intellectual debate.
Oh, and maybe a few more dinosaur jokes just to balance things out a little...
So I ask in all seriousness: What really happened to the dinos??????
Science (big general word there) says this: It was at this time (60-odd million years ago) when something happened that caused dinosaurs to become extinct. While there are several ideas, one that many scientists believe is that a huge comet or asteroid 6 to 12 miles wide slammed into the region that is now part of the eastern coast of Mexico, but at that time was under water.
