The Teacher
question
The twist at the end of The Teacher

I know Frieda's books are like thriller porn (not real porn, but like food porn, with books). But this one was uncharacteristically ridiculous. Does any one else think the epilogue twist, regarding the shoe salesman, makes NO SENSE? Is this book like a "snapflash" where previous details about characters disappear to make the twist work? Anyone else feel ripped off on this one?
absolutely agree, i dont think its meant to be that she didnt know he was a student, i think she was an unreliable narrator and the twist is shes just as bad as Nate in the end by being with a student, i think her saying wife and baby was massively misleading and should of just said 'she rang jay and the baby cried' as then there is room for interpretation however by saying 'wife' its just an outright lie and makes the twist confusing!!!
I'm curious to know why you think the twist didn't make sense? I enjoyed the ending and that particular twist took that book up to 5 stars for me.
Do you remember “Jay’s” wife calling with a crying baby in the background? How could he be the same person as the teen football star?
I felt the exact same way from the way the setting and schools is described. I pictured kind of a smaller town/school setting that could be totally wrong and honestly I don’t think it would matter but how on earth would a teacher not know he’s a student. She’s around highschoolers all day long, and should be able to recognize one especially one that’s now popular and a quarterback on the football team. I have known a lot of teachers and they know a lot about what’s going on who’s dating who they just know a lot somehow ! So there’s no way you can convince me she didn’t know who the student was or couldn’t tell that he was at least a highschooler or super young. Kind made it seem like she was relating a cycle psychologically that was done to her. This is why I have a hard time reading romance sometimes because you cannot depict the high school boy is like a 25-year-old man they’re vastly different. I don’t care how much they hit the gym.
Sorry for the typos it’s late and I don’t do well on the phone and apparently I can’t edit that comment^^^
I really liked this one! I was interested the whole time, I thought the twists were big surprises. It was a fun read!
I also wish she kept Eve's "thoughts" about Jay's wife and kids more ambiguous, since it felt like it led to her NOT KNOWING he was a student.
Instead, she must have, and I wish they had come full circle with her knowing he was student and actually doubled down on the fact that Eve is just as much of a predator as Nate.
Also- the entire book I was waiting to find out that Eve was in-fact, a former student of Nate's. And we did, but it fell flat to the other twists- and could have served much better on the premise that the abused BECOME the abusers.

The twist at the end had me baffled as well. Really, she didn't know he was a student, he's on the football team! I get the point being made about now this makes her just as bad, but I think it was a twist that is hard to believe.
Did anyone understand why the older teacher stopped Eve at the grocery store and warned her of what Addie was capable of? Besides that warning, I was under the impression that nothing nefarious happened between them. It seemed throughout the book Addie just reflected on fond memories with him, let me know what y'all think!
I had to go back and re-read all the moments with Jay in the shoe store after the twist was revealed. Freida never explicitly mentions to Jay’s “wife”, it is just implied by the way it was very well written. Freida only mentions “she or her”. Fooled me! Loved this book
I was not expecting that ending to find out that eve was sleeping with a student. I guess it’s true. I guess when I read that, I made the assumption that Jay was married with a kid, but it was really his mom and a sibling, the book implies that she didn’t know that he was a student because surely she would have recognized him from the school and that is not believable But how crazy that Jay and Hudson are the same person that both Addie and Hudson were sleeping with teachers that’s crazy to me. I loved that twist did not see it coming
Guys... I do have a theory. Freida never mentioned that jay is married, and he has a wife. Jay mentioned "she" Do you guys remember Shelby? She had a 1 yr old who had a babysitter... Addie mentioned in the Epilogue that he also do babysitting of a 1 year old. Jay/Hudson whtvr said I love you on the call and said "she is sayi g the baby needs... anyways I gotta go" something like that... do y'all agree with me that this Jay-Hudson, was also sleeping with shelby? Eve wrote that Shelby and she were best friends till last year... but when Shelby married this millionaire, they didn't share the same bond as before.
When Eve invited Shelby for dinner, she mentioned she don't like Shelby... What if Eve knew all... also some things doesn't make sense. Hudson knew that Addie and Nate were sleeping together after Eve told Hudson, and then addie called hudson, he knew, and then eve called hudson- it doesn't make sense. I have read some 100 twisty thriller novels by now, but no novel has done this to me, I didn't sleep the whole night just to make 1% sense of he epilogue. I just figured out that it's Shelby...
