Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I've read more than 5.000 books in my life (I'm 68).
On an average I read 120 books per year, but I've read more when I was younger and could read faster.

Like Daphne DuMaurier I created a book journal in my twenties and ever since wrote every book down that I could remember that I've read before.

Tyler Vale | 1 comments 5000 would be on the higher end for the average person. That's over 80 books per year starting in your teenage years and assuming you live to 75. Certainly achievable if you truly love reading and it's your main hobby, but if you only read for 30-60 minutes per day a few days per week (or you are a slow reader), then 3000 or so is probably a much more realistic count.

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments Tyler, I've read more than 180 books per year as a teenager and in my twenties. Every other day I've read another book. I was a fast reader.
My mom is 95 and still reads a lot.
We'll see, how much I can read over the coming 26,5 years. :)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments Film noir and classic TV series are another very time-consuming hobby that I have, but I read for a few hours in bed every morning and another half an hour at night before my sleeping pill finally kicks in.

Plus my husband and I do a TV-free afternoon once or twice a week where we read for 3 hours and listen to classical music.
