Ellen | 3522 comments Nate Romanowski has been approached by two federal agents to infiltrate a suspected group of terrorists in the vast Red Desert of Wyoming. Actually, he's been threatened with federal prison if he does not agree. Nate loads up his jeep and heads out. Meanwhile, Joe Pickett has been tasked by Governor Rulon to investigate crimes in the same area and report any suspect activity back to the governor's office. Adding to the suspense, Joe's college daughter Sheridan agrees to accompany a roommate on a camping trip with a group of individuals who have a idealistic agenda in mind. Nate, Joe and Sheridan all end up in the Red Desert in the midst of a dangerous situation.

The charismatic leader of the desert group has plans to keep the US Government from trampling all over citizens' 4th amendment rights. His plan is peaceful and non-violent but some of his followers have completely different intentions. Nate, Joe and Sheridan find themselves in grave danger as the infighting turns violent.

Another great installment of the Joe Pickett series with quite an interesting premise. It was good to see friends Joe and Nate team up together once again.

Booknblues | 12143 comments I've never read these books, but we just finished watching to seasons of Joe Pickett on Paramont +. It was such a good series with spectacular setting. So sad that they pulled it.

I looked at the series as I have never read any and found some 30 odd books, I'm not inclined to tackle such a lengthy series.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11108 comments Ellen, this sounds good. I keep meaning to start this series too.

Fran, are you a completist? Someone who likes to finish series and lists? I don’t expect to finish most series.

Ellen | 3522 comments Oh, no. I had no idea that Paramount+ had pulled the series. I enjoyed it so much.
Yes there are quite a few books in the Joe Pickett series. I have been reading them since 2013 and I'm only done with 17. One or two a year is fine as I know it's a series I can always go back to and enjoy. So Fran and Nancy, don't be intimidated. You'll be glad you traveled to Wyoming with Joe.

Apparently they felt it wasn't a money maker.

Nancy, I'm not necessarily a completist, because I have given up on a number of series, but when I read that a series has 30 books, it does give me pause, because I have any number of them going already.
