Daunis from the firekeeper’s daughter. I really liked the premise/plot of this book, and it had the potential to be really memorable and culturally noteable with its focus on heritage and Native American tradition.
However that potential was ruined because o could not finish the book I hate daunis so much. She is so insufferably annoying, putting down every single woman in her life, calling the girls on the hockey team rude names, even putting down her own mother. I’m not sure if she does this for attention or if she has some internalized misogyny, but this really has nothing to do with the point that the book is trying to make so it really just makes her look extremely rude and unlikeable, like she’s “not like other girls”. There is nothing special or unique about her and she is not any different than any of the women in her life, even though she thinks herself so much better.
She also falls in love with a man who, shows no interest in her at first, is focused on a police investigation, and she doesn’t even know his name. She could have solved the mystery shes been sweating over her entire life if she wasn’t hopelessly throwing herself all over him. She completely ignores her best friend’s death and never thinks about it again because she’s so captivated by this damn man. I wish she would get humbled, slapped across the face and focus on the drug epidemic that’s been killing her people for decades. She has all the recources to solve it, just apparently not the mental capacity.

Nesta from ACOSF the character development definitely worked out but I have never been so pissed at a fmc for like half of the book
knox from playing hard to get. he was way too cocky and always compared the fmc to the 'other women' he hooked up with
