The movie "The Fault in our Stars" was great!

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.
The Shining by Stephen King.
Time and Again by Jack Finney.
Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz.
Dancing Aztecs by Donald Westlake.

Strange… Engine Summer by John Crowley
African Futurism… Binti by Nnedi Okorafor
Sci-fi… Madness Season by CS Friedman
Fantasy… The Hallowed Hunt by Lois McMaster Bujold
Mystery… S. by Doug Dorst and JJ Abrams
Horror… Nod by Adrian Barnes or The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw
Cozy… A Psalm For The Wild Built by Becky Chambers. Not necessary to read the second book, but even if you do, these are short novellas and it won’t be much of an investment of time.
Memoir… Making It So by Patrick Stewart
Adventure… Into The River Lands by Nghi Vo … also a novella and a gateway to a world featured in multiple stories, but any one of them stands alone and they can be read in any order.
This is off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more I’ve enjoyed recently that are worth recommending.

Mystery about a world with infinite rooms.
Uninformed narrator and loads of reveals. I will admit that the first 100 pages are background and set-up. But around page 130, the action picks up.

Is that the novel on which the lovely Sandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves movie is based?
Chrissie

The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy by Robert P. Jones 5* MUST
Symphony of Secrets by Brendan Slocumb 5*
Silver Lady by Mary Jo Putney 5*
The Book Spy by Alan Hlad 5*
No Two Persons by Erica Bauermeister 5*
The Refugee Ocean by Pauls Toutonghi
Some of Us Are Looking by Carlene O'Connor 5*

Dreams Lie Beneath by Rebecca Ross
First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston
Hotel Magnifique by Emily J Taylor

Maybe a bit of a hot take, but I actually didn't like The House in the Cerulean Sea at all. I thought the characters felt really one-dimensional, especially the kids.
(No offense to anyone who likes it, of course :D)

If you want to laugh uncontrollably: In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan
If you want to cry: Some Mistakes Were Made by Kristin Dwyer
all standalones with romance:)

Love this concept and story. Tells a story about a boy who goes to one of the islands in the Great Lakes of Michigan. Finds a mysterious girl there who can't leave the island.
Slow burn, Mystery and secrets the unravel.

need more contexts.. which genre, sub genre, tropes, topics ...
