Smithback is awesome. I hope he is in the second one

Natasa (natasa79) | 353 comments Started downloading the movie, but I'm surprised by how low the rating is, only 5,7/10...I always look up movies and TV shows on IMBD...like everyone else I suppose...don't care, I'll still watch it.

My boyfriend just came so I had to stop reading, damn! But the action was full blast...double damn...I'll have to slip him a pill or something so he goes to sleep and I can read in peace hahaha how crazy is that idea lol

Anthony Hains | 140 comments Relic: The last 100 pages are non-stop thrills. This is the best book these guys wrote.

Kasia, I found this out like yesterday before your post. I was totally surprised how huge this series is. Logically I read all book descriptions and marked them TBR ;)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 81 comments I read Reliquary (Pendergast, #2) by Douglas Preston Reliquary
way back when and also enjoyed it ... I don't think I realized at that time that there were more ...

Natasa (natasa79) | 353 comments Watched the movie last night. It wasn't that bad as the ratings but the book is uncomparable. My bf is still here and I didn't drug him so I had no chance to finish it yet lol

I'm over 80% though and it's crazy and interesting and loving every second of it.

I'd love to read Reliquary next, are we in it, did we plan to do this?

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 175 comments I'll definitely be reading Reliquary, so I'd be up for it.

Argh, everyone's liking it so much. Screw it, I'll skip ahead and start it as my next book tonight. Have to go see a friend and her new baby, but should be able to get a chapter in.

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 175 comments Finished tonight, really enjoyed it. Now I want to watch the movie again. I remember watching it a long time ago and not being that impressed. I mean I liked it, but it was nothing that stuck with me. Curious to see how close to the book it is. I almost always find the books superior to the movies anyway though, as I'm sure most in GR do.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments I watched the movie years ago and enjoyed it, but thankfully forgot most of it now. Hate the movie to be fresh in my mind before reading the book.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments Okay finally started. Planned to read the first chapter, then bed, but now in the 7th chapter, and bed. The chapters are pretty short. Good so far.

Same thing here, I barely remember the movie so the book was more enjoyable lol.

I'm about 70% done. The Museum event is about to start. That can't be a spoiler - even the jacket discusses it.

I saw the movie and was iffy about the book after seeing the movie. But the book hooked me. Lots more room for characters and subplots in the book.

Natasa (natasa79) | 353 comments Oh I see, I didn't say I finished the book. It was really good and the characters so well developed, I'll remember some of them for a long time. Can't wait to jump into book 2 but I'll have to wait a bit.

Anyone interested in buddy reading the second book?

message 72: by Tom (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tom | 340 comments Let me know about book 2. I am interested to see how this plays out

message 73: by Eric (new) - rated it 4 stars

Eric (eterrell3) | 97 comments 100 pages to go, should finish up this weekend.

(view spoiler)

Count me in on a buddy read for the next book!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments I have the second book as well.

Right now only on page 239, but it's a fast read so far.

Charles | 51 comments Listening to the second book right now, about half way
done and also a great read or listen.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments Finished Relic today - very good. Not in a reviewing mood right now but that will come soon. Rated four stars. Definitely a book hard to put down.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments The very end held a surprising twist I didn't see coming - wonder if that will pop up in the series down the road?

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments Started a bit slow for me, didn't seem to have much I hadn't encountered elsewhere. It picked up when the author got deeper into the actual museum itself, giving the reader glimpses of what it was like to be and work there. I couldn't help but wonder if the actual museum itself had/has a house legend about some creature lurking in its hidden corners.

My wife and I plan to go to NYC for a second honeymoon in celebration of our ten year anniversary, and a trip to the Museum of Natural History is now on the agenda.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments I'm sure it would be nice to visit.

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments I'll try to remember to come back here and post my thoughts on the place when we get back. :)

Walter, lucky you, I'd love to visit it :) If it's any good as in the book, for real it must be awesome.

I've only been in Athens in a huge museum and that's it, every other museum was a small one...not the type that you can get lost in for days looking all exhibits :)

Natasa (natasa79) | 353 comments Btw, I've started book 2 as well.

Charles, Erin, what do you say we make a thread for the second book?

I will open it, no problem...if you agree, maybe we will attract someone else who wants to read it as well.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments That sounds good Natasa :)

LOL This is true too

So Walter, IF you come back, make sure to bring stories. I know my local museum doesn't allow pictures so that's probably not possible, but who knows.

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments Will do my best. And if you never hear from me again, well, you'll know why...

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) | 120 comments Walter wrote: " I couldn't help but wonder if the actual museum itself had/has a house legend about some creature lurking in its hidden corners."

In case you weren't aware, Douglas Preston worked at the American Museum of Natural History, for 7 years. This, of course, is why the location.

I'm not saying there are rumours, but Preston would know it, if there are.

James, love your "I'm not saying there are rumours, but Preston would know it, if there are."

I definitely felt that I was reading a book by someone who knew the museum space intimately.

It helps to have occupied a space for a period of time to really come up with the details that he creates.

I ordered the second and third books. When I get them, I'll get started. Will there be a separate thread?

Is that the maid from the hotel from Twin Peaks???

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) | 120 comments Yes, Twin Peaks.

It came to mind, because I think of Agent Dale Cooper as a precursor of Agent Pendergast.

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) | 120 comments I have no idea, but I'd bet he was an intentional influence, for one or both of the authors.

Natasa (natasa79) | 353 comments That's actually a great comparison :)
Aside the fact that Pendergast is very blond...He might actually be him ;)

Natasa (natasa79) | 353 comments Btw i love that show...There was supposed to be a movie made like really recently? Did that happen at all?

Off-topic, but it's not a movie, it's a new season.

However, last I heard, David Lynch backed out because the network wasn't offering a large enough budget to do it, properly (according to Lynch). It'll still happen, but probably with Mark Frost (the less-heralded co-creator/director) at the helm.
