katelyn @Alana- kasie west is a super good romcom author! They’re all clean and so sweet ❤️

Izzy Porter (ice_cream_party) | 374 comments I’m always in search of books with almost no language, no lgbtq+ characters, the romance doesn’t even reach fade-to-black levels, and no messages that go against my beliefs

Sadly I often end up reading books with that stuff 😢

I think you may have already read it, but The Last Bookshop in London is a clean, excellent WW2 historical fiction novel. Perhaps it could be a future BOTM for this group.

The Zion Covenant and Zion Chronicles series by Christian authors Brock and Bodie Thoene (pronounced Tay-nee) are also great reads centered around WW2. Check out their GR reviews.

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) I’ve seen that book and I love historical fiction, glad to know it’s clean. (And if you want, feel free to nominate it for aprils BOTM over in the BOTM folder)

Have you read Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys? It's my personaly favorite WWII novel. Between Shades of Gray, also by Ruta Sepetys, is good too.

✧Bella✧ Does anyone know of any no spice YA fantasy with the enemies-to-lovers trope?

You know that the main character in Salt to the Sea is the cousin of the main character in Between Shades of Gray?? When the girl talks about how she didn't know what had happened to her cousin that she sent letters to, Between Shades of Gray is what happened to the cousin.

Sorry for the spoiler if you haven't read it, but that doesn't mess any of the books up :)

Try "Powerless" by Lauren Roberts!! Absolute perfection, amazing enemies to lovers, and plenty of sizzle but no spice :)

Morgan's Endless Bookshelf (morgansendlessbookshelf) | 331 comments @Bella and @Lydia: A couple I've read are Hidden Current by Sharon Hinck and Mark of the Raven by Morgan L Busse (though please note that book 2 of the latter has a fade-to-black scene + the next morning).

Yes, I did realize that. Also, the diplomat who's family Cristian is supposed to spy on in I Must Betray You is Daniel's friend in The Fountains of Silence.

Hmm, maybe Fawkes by Nadine Brandes. Same author as Wishtress, and it involves color magic.

Alexis Carlson | 4 comments Does anyone know of some clean historical fiction set in Medieval Europe?

message 36: by ✝️Reagan (new)

✝️Reagan A really great no spice romance series is porch swing girl by Taylor Bennett! The romance takes the back seat in the first book or two, but in the end it’s the main focus and stays no spice the entire time. It’s a Christian series that talks about grief and how to overcome it. And I will never not recommend keeper of the lost cities! Best book series ever. Spy school is good too, but there’s some language and inappropriate jokes, but nothing too bad. There’s also a big presence of lgbt characters in the latest one.

✝️Reagan Books written in poem form but have a storyline, or just a book with a bunch of separate poems in it?

message 41: by Bcs (Sarah. B) (new)

Bcs (Sarah. B) (bcs19) | 135 comments I can't think of any other than one that is probably out of print... Caravan of Fun : The Children's Hour #4.

Does anyone know of a series that has a young boy (12 or so I think) who moves in next to Sherlock Holms... or at least becomes friends with him. The boy gets involved in a case and towards the end he gets injured and needs to walk with a cane....if it's any help I think there are two books in the series. And the covers have a magnifying glass on the front.

message 45: by Seager (new)

Seager M I’m looking for some good historical fictions to read. Specifically from any war America fought in.

message 46: by Charlie_Hammark (new)

Charlie_Hammark | 521 comments Do you like World War II? I can recommend some from that time period if you want?

message 48: by Jasmine (Jazzie) (new)

Jasmine (Jazzie) | 4304 comments Aahh, I just realized I never made that list for you! I'm so sorry Seager!

But some of my favorite historical fiction books set during an American war are:

Courting Morrow Little by Laura Frantz (Revolutionary War)
The Colonel's Lady by Laura Frantz (Revolutionary War)
Ring of Secrets by Roseanna M. White (Revolutionary War)

The Bonnets and Bugles series by Gilbert Morris (Civil War)

And here are some books that I really like that were set in some of the same wars that the USA fought in, but it's not set in an American's perspective.
The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley (WW2, a English girl's pov)
The Number of Love by Roseanna M. White (WW2, set in England. The MCs are English and French if I remember correctly)
The British Booksellers by Kristy Cambron (Set in England in WW2 with flashbacks of sorts in and right before WW1. They are British obviously)
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys (The MC are from different European countries. Some of them were on the Axis side)

Some other good books set in those times that aren't really fiction would be;
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom (WW2, it's her and her family's story, they were Dutch)
Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front by Karen Whiting and Jocelyn Green (It's different stories from the wars America fought in)
