Victoria G | 9 comments I'm not 14 so I won't add you but I wanted to give you some advice about books! Get yourself a library card - this will give you the option to borrow so many interesting books. And it's basically for free, so you'll have the option to borrow books that you're not sure about.

Oh, and some libraries have the option to borrow ebooks which makes it even lless hassle to borrow books :) Best of luck with your reading habits!

Vanessa (vanessacumberlandcountypa) Welcome to Goodreads, lavenduh! I'm positive you'll make some great friends on here that are your age or thereabouts and have the same reading interests. And I second Victoria's advice about using the library--it's a great resource and nice sometimes just to borrow a book! Happy reading.

message 23: by Erin (new)

Erin Dodson (edodson) Hi there! You are welcome to add me. I am 35, but I still enjoy YA! But I do read mature 18+ books. So, if you are scrolling, be mindful of that.

Do you like fantasy? If yes, I just read Powerless by Lauren Roberts, it was great!

Some other good books that I read when I was younger (all are fantasy)

The Vampire Academy Series and Bloodlines Spinoff Series by Richelle Mead.

Harry Potter! I re-read the series every year, and I fell in love with reading with these books!

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

The Shadow Hunter Series by Cassandra Clare

The Body Finder Series by Kimberley Derting

Divine Rivals & Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross.

The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine

Some books that are NOT fantasy

I also really enjoyed the Hundred Oakes books by Miranda Kenneally

I hope you enjoy some of these recommendations!

Hi Erin! Thank you so much for these recommendations! I'll be sure to check them out! I've almost fully read the first Hunger Games (till the part where Katniss and Peeta win the games and get back to the capital, but my school library took it away:[) I've seen the book set of the three main books on Amazon with the the really pretty 10th anniversary special edition cover, I'll be buying them after my exams end!

I've just finished Island of the Blue Dolphins and I absolutely loved it. I truly recommend this book. another good read is "They all had a reason" its right up you age frame and it was a great book thrill to read, its easy and not long and drawn out as some books can be. feel free to try any of these recommendations and HAPPY READING my fellow reading friend.

Erica Robbin (ericarobbin) | 82 comments I'm glad you are starting an at account younger age, I wish we had GR when I was your age. I would have loved to have known my thoughts on books and to have kept track over my lifetime, particularly all the classics I read that were required reads when I was a child.

Most that were required reads for me when I was in school are on banned lists now, but I recommend looking through old classics reading lists according to your age/grade.

There are so many treasures. Required reading lists have changed so much today and albeit feels like a slog when you are younger as they are classic literature, but there is so much value to them.

Stellar writing and stories that many authors today draw inspiration from or repackage or retell, and it is wonderful to know the source material and engage in conversation when people reference them, when you know and can understand the original thought of literature from its beginnings, and many are life commentary that still ring true to today.

Barbara (quakerwidow) | 155 comments If you're ready to tackle non-fiction, The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy by Robert P. Jones is excellent (and will give you a leg-up if you have a decent history teacher). You may need to ask your mom to request it from your local library, but the author has been MOST generous in fulfilling library requests, although he, too, may be running short of funds at this point.
