Book: Labyrinth by Kat Richardson
How it Fits: Greywalker series #5
Finished: 04/23/24
Rating: 5 Stars
Reviews:
Labyrinth was another good addition to the Greywalker series. It is a continuation of the previous book Vanished. I thought the plot was interesting and I liked how the author wrapped up the various threads they had woven together over the last five books. Also, I am enjoying the romance between Harper and Quinton. Their relationship is in the background, but I love that Quinton is just a normal guy. He isn't a mage or a vampire or has any real superpowers. He is a kind, supportive, tech nerd who treats Harper well and I love that their relationship is so respectful. The conclusion of this story is very fast-paced and exciting and makes me want to continue in the series, sooner rather than later to see what happens next.

This was a emotionally compelling intense, sweet and a compelling read all rolled into this great story and I loved every moment of it from start to finish. I loved the Main characters as well as their relationship with each other which I found to be loving, honest, supportive, and patient.

Book: Etta and Otto and Russell and James by Emma Hooper
Date: 24/4 3.5★
Qualification: Alternate - MC is older than 60 -- MCs are in their 80s
Pages: 293
Review:
I enjoyed the book, it was sweet & a little bit weird, but I was never engaged as much as I thought I would be. The premise is perfect: an 80-odd year old woman decides to walk thousands of miles to see the sea because she never has before, dementia threatens & she wants to do it before it takes her over. Unlike Otto, I can't see why Etta decided to walk 3200km east instead of 1200km west, but there you go. I don't really understand the addition of James the coyote but I am glad she had someone to talk to during her long walk.
Otto & Etta have known each other since they were teenagers when she came to teach his school, & they have now been married for 60+ years. Russell is Otto's friend from childhood who has loved Etta just as long, & he never went his own way in all these years. The story jumps around in time a lot but I think the crux of it is that they are losing each other, one way or another, & that there is no time left but now.
The numbering of the 15 kids in Otto's family amused me & was a pretty good ide of Marie's - Marie-1, Clara-2...Otto-7, etc. When Russell joined them unexpectedly he became Russel-7 1/2. Why was Marie in France if she didn't go to be a nurse, I wonder?
Although it did bounce around in time a bit rapidly & plod along a bit in the middle, I found this an entertaining & touching tale.

How it fits: Lizzie Grace #5
Read: 04.24.24
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
"You're the scrawniest, most ungrateful pig of a cat I've ever had the goddamn misfortune to come across, you know that?"
This is book five in the Lizzie Grace series. Lizzie discovers remains that are cleaned to the bones and must discover what type of demon is killing on the reservation.
There seemed to be so much going on in this book. We still have Lizzie and Belle trying to maintain their secrecy about their past. i think that is getting to be a bit wearing for Aiden. I'm afraid that Lizzie and Aiden will not make it as a couple. The constant reminder that werewolves and witches don't marry makes me sad. The introduction of Aiden's mother throws a whole new set of problems their way.
Monty, the new reservation with and Lizzie's cousin brings a bit of humor to the story. His constant pursuit of Belle brings a smile to my face.
In addition to the demon, we have a White Lady that wants Lizzie to help her get revenge.
The character building is very good in this series. It was only as I began reading that I realized I skipped book 4 so I had to listen to it before starting this one. It has been a Lizzie filled week! I enjoy learning more about the reservation and the werewolves. The plot keeps me turning the page to see what will happen next.
The ending took me by surprise. While not a true cliffhanger, it definitely makes me want to start the next book as soon as possible to see where the storyline takes us
This is a good solid series that I recommend.

Lace and Lies byNancy Warren
Read: 4/26/24
Rated : 4 stars
Review : Lucy has no luck with her being involved or caught in a murder but she does happen to find a way to clear herself from being the prime suspect. I have to say the murdered character Enid was not a well liked person so I can ses someone wanting to kill her. I really enjoy this series and will definitely continue it.

Waiting for Love Marie Force

355 pages
How it fits: Gansett Island #8
"I'm absolutely, positively, totally and completely done with men," the woman sitting behind Adam McCarthy announced-loudly- to everyone in the noon ferry to Gansett Island.
The eighth book in the Gansett Island series is Abby and Adam's story. Both have had recent breakups and end up together to look for another chance at love.
Abby dated Adam's brother Grant for ten years before dating Cal. Both relationships ended up on the rocks. I was a bit concerned about brothers sharing a relationship with the same woman even if it was years apart. The author was able to write it without too much of an ick factor.
Previous couples are featured in the storyline as well. It is nice to see couples in their late 50s that still have a healthy sex life. There is also a May/December pairing with the woman being almost 20 years older than the man. That was a refreshing change from the trophy wife trope.
This was an easy book to listen to knowing that there would be a satisfying happy ever after. I need to read a couple of the previous books to catch up on the other brothers

Book: The Rebel by Melinda Metz
How it fits?: Roswell High #8
Date finished: 4/28/2024
Rating: 4 Stars
Review:
The Rebel was an amazing follow-up to The Stowaway that features the return of some characters and the introduction of some new ones. After the last book ended without the group getting Alex back, I wondered how that situation would be resolved. He does return but it's not without its' complications. It was so nice to get Alex back though and have him back in the group, it just wasn't the same without him. We also meet a new character, Trevor, who has a connection to Michael. I wasn't too sure about him and thought it was odd how quickly Michael trusted him. Eventually the plot goes in a crazy direction and I'm interested to see how things play out in the next book. I will say I am not loving the whole Liz and Adam thing or how Max is acting. Hopefully that all gets fixed in the next book.

Book: The Burning Issue of the Day
How it Fits: Lady Hardcastle series #5
Finished: 05/01/24
Rating: 5 Stars
Reviews:
This series continues to be delightful. Flo and Lady Hardcastle are a great pair of protagonists, and their banter is next-level entertaining. The suffragist angle of the plot was very enjoyable and thought the mystery was an interesting one. I love all the fascinating characters that Flo and Lady Hardcastle gather around them as they try to prove a woman is innocent of arson and murder. All in all, a great book and I can't wait till I can read the next one.

Review:
This book was simply awesome. I was rootling the hea of both of the characters. The story was so in grossing that I was completely invested in it i laughed, cried, and sighed. It really was a page turner well written flows nicely, had steamy love scences, some nail biting moments. There was so much intrigue lies, politics, and agendes as in indicative of a Turbulent time in history.

Book: Temple by Matthew Reilly
Date: 2/5 4★
Qualification: Alternate - South America -- Set in Peru
Pages: 689
Review:
Great fun, an adrenalin-rush extraordinaire with barely a moment to draw breath, just as you think it's time to relax the next wild ride begins. I felt my heart race increase reading that mad scene in the boats. Set in Peru in both the 19th & 16th centuries, the stories entwine & effect each other from the distance of time: the hero of the present is William Race, a linguistics professor, & the past is Alberto Santiago, a Spanish monk. Ridiculous & improbable as his stories are, I enjoy them for the pure escapism. I like this flawed, unlikely hero, William Race, better than the super-duper Scarecrow.

Review : I'm still enjoying this series. Not sure if I would like to live in a town with vampires and worried about dying but I'm ok with reading about them. Now a rode trip wasn't something I would have done since one of someone is a vampire and can be a problem . So of course it happens but still enjoy the story.

Review:
Definitely a fun read, highly improbable & not to be taken seriously, but a little suspended disbelief & away you go. I've always thought those writing groups might be a bit dodgy. I'm not quite sure why this bunch of disparate individuals on a writing class would want to stick around when things got really serious & one of them was killed but, there you go, there'd be no story without them. The hybrid novels were amusing.
Light & entertaining, with some well-rendered oddball characters & a bit of wit about it.

Fool for Love Marie Force

288 pages
How it fits: Gansett Island #2
Read: 05.05.24
Rating: 3.5 stars
Review:
The phone call Joe Cantrell has waited half his life to receive came in around nine on an otherwise average Tuesday evening.
The second book in the Gansett Island series focuses on Janey McCarthy and Joe Cantrell. Joe is Mac's best friend and like a fifth brother to Janey. Joe has loved Janey most of his life even though she is engaged to her high school sweetheart, David. Janey calls Joe after finding David in a compromising situation on their anniversary.
Its not often that the man is the person with unrequited love in a story. Joe is a kind loving man who has supported Janey unfailingly. Janey starts to reflect on her life and realizes that David is not the man she thought he was.
This series includes a continuation of Mac and Maddie as they get closer to their wedding. The characters are well written and the storyline weaves through family, friends, love, loss, and acceptance.
I did start this series randomly rather than at the beginning so I knew a few things about the characters. I have since started with book one so that I can understand each couple as the saga follows them.
The love story is bittersweet. The sex is steamy. It's a great book to curl up with on a rainy day with a cup of tea and a couple of cats on your lap.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Book: A Blizzard of Polar Bears
How it Fits: Alex Carter series #2
Finished: 05/06/24
Rating: 5 Stars
Reviews:
This was a great follow-up to A Solitude of Wolverines. One of the things I enjoy most about these books is all of the information on the animals that Alex is studying. This time we are along for the ride when Alex gets a job studying polar bears. I thought the mystery was well thought out. Also, the action once started is breakneck and just propels this book until the end. I greatly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one. I highly recommend this series.

Congrats to team seven!
I had a lot of fun teaming up with you guys. Thanks so much for playing!

Book: The Vanished by Melinda Metz
How it fits?: Roswell High #7
Date finished: 4/21/2024
Rating: 4 Stars
Review:
The Vanished picks up where The Stowaway left off with the group trying to figure out how to get Alex back after he was sucked through the wormhole to their planet by accident. Max is able to figure out that Alex is safe for now but they're definitely on a time crunch to get him back. I enjoyed the group working together to figure out how to get Alex home and their plan went in a few directions I wasn't expecting. The ending with Du Pris and the Major was a complete surprise. With the cliffhanger ending, I can't wait to pick up the next book to fin out what happens. I will say I'm getting tired of Adam's crush on Liz. It's clear she's with Max and I'm just tired of reading about him pining for her.
