Sherri Harris | 1494 comments Good Morning Team Endymion, great going. When I got on the completed tab yesterday I was impressed to see how many books everyone has finished. I'm currently reading Babel. I'm listening to Fourth Wing. I'll be days before I finish because I'm not far in either.

Kendra | 2085 comments Hey I finished The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 & Wynd, Book Two: The Secret of the Wings and I used them for 'Life and death struggle' & " light source on cover' so we now have our first Green Bead. 🥳

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments I think I've made a mistake somehow with my page counts, I'm confused.

My first update was on Feb. 9 because I'd seen other people posting in the thread and I'd joined late, but looking back now, it seems that was too early? It's unfortunate since that's the day I read the most.

These are my actual totals for the days:
Feb 9 - 150 pages
Feb 10 - 63 pages to finish Exes and O's (but if the previous day's reading didn't count, I guess this book doesn't even count toward the readathon since I didn't have 100 pages left)
Feb 11 - 101 pages of A Twisted Love Story
Feb 12 - 101 pages again

I did find it weird that things seemed to start on Friday, but I guess I got it wrong? Pretty frustrating since it means the only book I've read so far doesn't even count!

message 54: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 33 comments I just finished The Lost World. Woohoo!

We are so close to finishing the blue section, so I filled the prompt 'A book where someone travels to another state/country'.

I'm so sorry, that is definitely frustrating! I would check with the mods in the team challenge thread and see if we can just bundle friday and saturday together?

Yes, as stated on the Readathon Intro and FAQs thread HERE, it does run February 10-18, so you cannot count what you read on February 9. You'll just need to make the adjustment on the PENDANT TRACKING sheet. But that's still great!! Every page counts!!

Worth a shot, but I doubt they'll allow it lol It was my fault for not reading the thread carefully enough.

Today I read another 98 pages of A Twisted Love Story, expecting to finish it off tomorrow.

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments Wow! Look what happened while I was at an IRL book club meeting and running errands today!! You all rock!!

We have our first GREEN and BLUE beads!! Whoo! Whoo! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

We lack just one prompt from a PURPLE bead: A book that is 'spicy' and there are three books listed that could fulfill that one!

GOLD: 3 more prompts to fulfill
PINK: just 2 more prompts
SILVER: just 2 more prompts
BLACK: 4 more prompts to fulfill

We've used 2 of our 6 pendants, so we have 4 remaining!!!

I know they post the team threads a day or so ahead so people can say hello to their team mates and plan ahead in some cases for prompt. So I know Lynn & I both added our planned reads to the spreadsheet before the read-a-thon stated.

Also, I tend to post my numbers as I go - so if I get up and read 50 pages, then check in, I'll put the 50 pages in. Then every time I check in, I update what my total for the day is. So I already have a number in for today's reading, but it's not the final number, it's just up to the moment of my last check in.

Also, I know I'm not going to have any audio hours, so I filled in the zeros a head of time.

message 65: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2085 comments I finished another book. Dinosaur Sanctuary Vol. 3 - it's 204 pages, so it counts. I used it for MC's name starts with a letter in Silver.

message 66: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1494 comments Hi Team Endymion, Congratulations on getting two beads. This is fun. I will continue my audio book of Fourth Wingtoday. I'm also slowly reading Babel. Usually I just read books during a read-a-thon but I'm listening more this time. I'm still having fun.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments Good news - Emily said we can count what I have read so far even though I started a little early! She said to balance things out, I just won't count what I read on Sunday so that way I'll still have the same number of days as everyone else. I'm at work now so I'll have to figure out how to adjust the spreadsheet later

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments We just need one more prompt fulfilled for PINK--A love story and PURPLE--A book that is "spicy"!!

I picked up my first Perry Mason book last night, The Case of the Beautiful Beggar and started reading it. I had picked this up very cheaply at a library sale and wanted to read it for the 52 Book Club prompt of "Bibliosmia: A Smelly Book! This one is quite old (published in 1965) and I kinda loved the "musty" smell of it when I purchased it! And...a character must stay in a hotel!! Perfect!!

I am teaching and working out again this evening, but will concentrate on finishing With the Fire on High today/tomorrow since it is the only option we currently have for the BLACK prompt: a food item on the cover!

Thanks Sophia and Lynn for your support and suggestions! Glad my mistake didn't have too big an impact on our progress so far.

Shelby | 33 comments I'm almost halfway through my almost 700 page book. My goal is to push through and finish this week so I can fill in one of the prompts for a silver or black bead.

I think I need to pick shorter books for the next read-a-thon lol. This is only my 2nd time so I have a lot to learn!

message 72: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments 90 pages tonight to finish off A Twisted Love Story

message 73: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2085 comments I finished When Clouds Touch Us and used it for the family drama prompt.

message 74: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1494 comments Hello Team Endymion, I continue to listen to Fourth Wing. I'm really enjoying the book. I have 8 hours 56 min left but will not be home this morning. Hopefully I can listen for a block of time this afternoon. We're doing great.

I'm so glad to be on your team, Shelby!

I will say, that I think most, or at least many, of us do try to stick to shorter books for these readathons. However, with that said, I do find it helpful to have another longer book that I have started standing by just in case we end up needing more pages read or hours listened. That can happen...more books are completed, but the team needs more pages/hours to count the books!

And, I'm sure we all have varied strategies... Perhaps others can also let you know how they strategize!

message 78: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments I was able to read a bit more than expected yesterday, but today is going to be way busier than I expected... I have appointments and grocery shopping to do and an author event this evening...

I will work to complete With the Fire on High for the BLACK food item on the cover prompt today, but I can't promise much more than that!

I'll check in tomorrow morning. Have a great day!!

message 79: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 185 comments I've been having a rough reading week, sorry for the lack of updates - I've jumped into some new books to try and get moving again. I've also added pendants to all our bead colors because we've been doing great on pages, well done everyone!

message 80: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Finished my romance book and added it for spicy. It was maybe not the spiciest but had plenty of spice to qualify.

I fly home tomorrow so lots of good plane/ airport waiting time for reading.

message 81: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments 85 pages of You (which is a reread for me, haven't read it since 2016!) tonight.

message 82: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1494 comments Good Morning Team Endymion, I only have 3 hours 10 minutes left on Fourth Wing. My plan is to finish later today. Have a good day everyone.

message 83: by Wendi (new)

Wendi Lee (wendimlee) | 38 comments Good morning! I finished My Roommate Is a Vampire and added it to the pink 'love story' prompt. However, it could be used for the silver 'mythology' prompt too. My idea of mythology was pretty narrow (Greek, Roman, etc), but I guess there's a mythology of vampires? Anyway, let me know if you think I should switch. The 'love story' prompt has four other options on the planning page.

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments Good morning, Team!!

We are getting there, Team Endymion! Progress has been made and is being made!

We already have 4 of 7 beads completed!! WHOO!! WHOO!!

Just 6 more prompts to fulfill for those last 3 beads!! Thanks to Sophia for adding the pendants to all 7!!

GOLD (2)--Set in France and Someone who wins at something!
SILVER (1)--Related to mythology!
BLACK (3)--A book with black on the cover, Main Character breaks a law, Title begins with a letter in BLACK

It looks as if there are plenty of options on the planning sheet for each of these, though only two each for Set in France and Mythology!

I'll be finishing The Poet X for an IRL book club meeting Sunday and The Seven Year Slip for a buddy read. Not sure I'll get both finished today since I teach and workout this evening again, but I'll try!

Then I have a whole stack of shorter books from which to select after that!

message 87: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1494 comments Hi Everyone, I finished Fourth Wing. 5 stars. I loved it. I put it under gold. A book featuring someone who wins at something. That leaves a book set in France as the last prompt to fill there.

message 88: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 185 comments Finished Archivist Wasp and put it under mythology, since a good chunk of the plot is about the foundational myths that this dystopian society is built upon and how that unravels. Which means we've finished our Silver bead! Gonna try and push through The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport and The Drunken Botanist: The Plants That Create the World's Great Drinks since both of those fit Black bead prompts but if someone beats me to it, so much the better.

message 89: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments I finished Dele Weds Destiny and put it for breaks a law. There was an illegal abortion in 1980's Nigeria.

message 90: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 33 comments Good job everyone!! My week has been much busier than expected so I have read fewer pages than I was hoping for. I'll be driving quite a bit tomorrow so I will switch to the audiobook version of my long book so I can make some progress in the car. :)

message 91: by Sophia (last edited Feb 16, 2024 08:05PM) (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 185 comments I have A Quiet Place by Seichō Matsumoto checked out and it's pretty short - do we think that counts as black on the cover? Otherwise I'll start The Great Witch of Brittany by Louisa Morgan which is set in France.

message 92: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments 112 pages of You today. There's a slim possibility I'll be able to finish it off tomorrow, but unlikely. Tomorrow's one of my the days where I have to work on putting together the newsletter for work, and I generally listen to an audiobook while doing it. In theory, I could listen to the rest of this, but I've purposely wanted to reread it physically since that's how I first read it years ago. Plus, I can often finish off a whole audiobook in one day, so either way I should hopefully be finishing something.

message 93: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1494 comments Good Morning Team. Today is busy. I will continue reading Babel by R.F. Kuang . I don't think I'll finish this book before the end of the read-a-thon. I think I'm reading for pages at this point.

message 94: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 33 comments Good Morning!

Change of plans for me today. I had a bit of a drive ahead of me but I drove about 30 minutes and the roads were a sheet of ice. I saw 16 accidents and decided to turn around and stay safe at home today.

I'll keep working on reading NOS4A2. I'm hoping to finish it for the ' book with black on the cover' prompt.

message 96: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments Wendi wrote: "Good afternoon. I finished White Bird for the France prompt."
YAY!!

message 97: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments WOW! Look at all you guys did while I was 'gone'! Yowza!

I had an exhausting evening of 3 1/2 hours on the road to get to my gym and back yesterday/evening! That 1-2 inches of snowfall they predicted turned into more than that and roads and traffic were awful, but at least the majority of drivers were cautious and safe!! That trip is typically only 1 1/2 hours for the round trip! Yikes!

Anyway, I used The Poet X for black on the cover and now we just need one more prompt to complete a BLACK bead. That is "A book whose title begins with a letter in BLACK.

There are currently 3 options listed on the planning sheet. I do have a juvenile book which would work and I could easily read yet today, but I'm not sure I need to do that. I am uncertain whether The Drunken Botanist: The Plants That Create the World's Great Drinks fulfills this prompt since it states the title is to BEGIN with a letter in BLACK? Thoughts? Sherri is uncertain that she'll be able to finish Babel by the end of the readathon. The third option is Rachel's A Twisted Love Story which is now listed as COMPLETE, but I cannot find on the COMPLETED sheet nor on any of the individual BEAD sheets, so I guess that has not yet been used to fulfill a prompt? Unfortunately, it definitely doesn't fit this prompt...

So I think I'll go ahead and read this juvenile book now so we have that prompt fulfilled. In the meantime, in deciding where to count The Seven Year Slip I fulfilled a purple prompt since it seems that of the planned books remaining, the one BEAD with the most options for all prompts was the PURPLE one.

Here's to more good reading time for us all the remainder of today and all of tomorrow!! Whoo! Whoo!

message 98: by L Y N N (last edited Feb 17, 2024 06:28PM) (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments And Team Endymion has finished this Team Readathon with all prompts fulfilled this evening!! Whoo! Whoo!

If any of us finish books now, please fulfill PURPLE prompts, if possible. Perhaps we could earn another bead or two before the end!

Great teamwork!! 👍😁👏👏👏👏👏👏

message 99: by Wendi (new)

Wendi Lee (wendimlee) | 38 comments Great job, everyone! I finished Sundial and was able to fulfill another purple prompt.

message 100: by Rachel (last edited Feb 17, 2024 10:59PM) (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments I ended up listening to all (about 6 hours? I listened on Everand, and the timing isn't quite clear, but I totaled up the chapter lengths and it said 5.77 hours) of To Siri With Love: A Mother, Her Autistic Son, and the Kindness of a Machine as an audiobook while I worked today.

I guess technically that's it for me for this readathon since Emily told me to count the extra day I started early last week instead of what I read tomorrow to balance things out!
