About a young woman who worked in Bootle and had to walk there and back everyday. She had to give all her wages to her emotionally abusive mother. She lived with her mother, father and siblings and she was the only one abused. Made to sleep on an uncomfortable bed or floor she was the only member of the family who was treated like this. I think it was sometime in the 1930's. The book is not Oranges are not the only fruit. Sorry, forgot to mention this is an autobiography and I read it in the 80/90's
