Anna Banana | 162 comments the first 100 pages were slow but once you got past it, it was an amazing read and it was so fun. the ending was so soul crushing and I read it maybe a year ago but think about it almost every day. the writing was beautiful the romance was perfect and it touched the soul in ways most books really haven't. it was so worth it

Victoria ‎♡‧₊˚ (victoriaagosto) | 115 comments Imma be the complete opposite then from these other comments, and to be completely truthful, I was so bored😭✋ I’m sorry I just have to say it, it got interesting at like the last 50 pages of the book. Good book if you wanna cry though I will be honest about that.

Mpia | 120 comments It was a little slow at first but I ended up loving it. But I always thought of it as a book inspired by the story of the Trojan War, Achilles and Patroclus. I have studied the Iliad in school and I can say that the characters are completely different from the original. Their personalities were changed in order to be more appealing to the readers, because in the original everyone was more ruthless and merciless. In this book Patroclus was portrayed as a weak medic while Achilles was portrayed as caring and as someone who didn't like war. In the Iliad, Patroclus was a formidable warrior, second in the Myrmidones only to Achilles, who fought in every battle in the chariot next to Achilles. Achilles in the Iliad was a merciless, arrogant warrior who only cared about his honor. And he did sleep with Briseis; I mean she was one of the prizes he won. I don't count something as a retelling if everything has changed, even the most important characteristics of someone's personality. So while I did like it, I still think of it as something that was simply inspired by the Iliad, that used the same names but was almost completely different

Stacey 📚📚 (stackattack) | 11 comments I'm an ancient Greek historical fiction nerd. It's slow to start but once the war starts it gets more interesting.

Honestly this book broke me 😩😿

Pierce Samuel ✞︎ (My Girlfriend's Ver.) (pierces_melted_wings) Literally my favorite book of all time. I LOVEE Greek Mythology, AND Queer books, so that was an automatic win. It starts off kinda dragging it, but once you get in the flow of things it is paced pretty well. Plus, I think it being slow at first symbolizes Patroclus's life and how it was slow and felt like every day was a chore before he met Patroclus

Asiuol K | 3 comments It's a pretty book. From what I remember, it was quite lyrical, and the style was definitely Homer-inspired. It felt like it was missing some rawness for me. The focus was definitely the romance, so it's up to you if you enjoy those types of stories.

Shadow girlie (Aelin’s version) | 24 comments God yes. It’s 🤌🏼

message 21: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Wang | 3 comments So so so good! Def worth a read, but a little slow at the beginning. I just wish the author had slowed down the ending a little to make it pack more of a punch.
PS. that one quote about being blind and def in another universe is NOT from the book, but from fanfiction abt the book.
PPS. anyone have any requests like this book? (ie. depressing, love story, greek mythology) I know there’s a bunch but I don’t know where to start!
