evlove | 89 comments Hey guys! I’m interested in some books with scenes or content that you felt triggered by, and how you feel about trigger warnings with books in general. Does a trigger warning ruin a good plot twist?

Joyce | 8 comments Trigger warnings are for people who might be reminded of a trauma they've experienced, right? That's what I thought they were for. I've not paid much attention to this. Any content warning for books or movies as well as reviews should be careful not to spoil the plot by being too specific. I HAVE read a book once that triggered the neck out of me and didn't have a warning. And I've read many books that warn all kinds of things that didn't bother me at all.

Joyce | 8 comments Little Bee by Chris Cleave, if you're curious. Definitely should have a trigger warning.

Carmencita | 3 comments i recently read a book that should’ve had a trigger warning but didn’t and the lack of made me want to DNF. so, for me i just like a heads up about harmful things, and i feel like most of the time it’s not gonna spoil the plot but just make sure the reader is aware and not blindsided.

✮ Vivi ✮ (Kai Azers Version) | 8 comments Firstly, a few books i’ve enjoyed with stronger trigger warnings are, Impulse by Ellen Hopkins (suicide, self-harm, intrusive thoughts, etc.) and After the Ink Dries (sexual assault)

Tanja | 315 comments Some scenes in a little life by hanya yanagihara were hard to read but I liked the book.
I'm not affected by trigger warnings and to me they have no meaning when it comes to my reading experience.
In general, I like when a book gets access to my emotions. It helps me diving deeper into a character or a story.

Gina Marie ~books are my drug of choice~ | 9 comments I can’t remember the title but it was released during the summer I believe. It had trigger warnings but they were all things that no longer trigger me. I was reading this as an ARC through netgalley I think. The book was a memoir. I have never been so triggered by a book that I couldn’t even read past the first chapter and that was a struggle.

On the other hand, when I was in college I had a book that triggered me in a far stranger way. It was called, I think, “Michelle speaks”. It was written by a woman who had been abused my a satanic cult. I had no idea why everything that she said happened was so triggering at the time but, I decided to make this book my first ever dnf. I can only assume I was doing this without being aware but that book turned up everywhere for a couple of years. Even though I remember putting it on my bookcase it was in my suitcase when I got to college. I finally gave it away so it would stop turning up.

♥️ alli ♥️ | 40 comments I personally thought archer’s voice, lots of sexual content and the trauma scenes - flashbacks weren’t described well and.. triggering ?
