I do not remember when it was written or the author or the title. It is about a boy (or an young adult) who goes back his village where there is a village of indegenous (I think Ojibwe) people. He befriends a Ojibwe boy of his age and they spend time boating. He gets a camera as a gift, and the two boys use that to take a snap of two thieves. There is also a dispute over the area of land of the villagers and a legal dispute about the land not being theirs. So, one fine morning the boy wakes up and sees that the entire Ojibwe village has moved away along with his friends, without a trace. Its a novel for young readers as far as I remember. Please help

Abhiroop, around what year did you read this book?
Is this a time travel book?
If yes, where does the boy come from - and what causes him to travel back in time?
For example: Potawatomi Indian Summer, Time Meddlers?

No it is not a time travel book at all. The boy goes back to his village, which is far less developed than the city he now lives in. So they have never seen a camera before. I read it about 7-8 years back, but the book is definitely much older than that. I do not remeber the exact time frameKris wrote: "Abhiroop, around what year did you read this book?

This sounds very familiar and I will try to keep turning this over in my head to see if I can come up with any information.
Abhiroop, do you remember anything about the cover?Time period/location story takes place?
Is it an American book, Canadian book, etc?
Part of a series?
It was a one off book. Not a part of any series. The cover i faintly remember is red...it was a odd shaped book...a bit longish and rectangular. It was set in Canada I think, but could have been American too.
Is the main character white or native Canadian/American (from the same or different tribe as his friend)? Why did he leave the village and then return to it?
Kris wrote: "Is the main character white or native Canadian/American (from the same or different tribe as his friend)? Why did he leave the village and then return to it?"The main character is White. He returns to his village and befriends a Native boy who stays in a setllement near his village. He left the village for education and all. He used to come back to his village for vacations if I am not wrong.
No Word For Good-bye by John Craig? This is the Kirkus review: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-re...
A young teenager loses his Indian friend after efforts to save the land of an Ojibway band in Manitoba fail; the whole band, including his friend, silently disappears — there is no word for good-bye in Ojibway.
