I don't, just because I can't know what books that person likes. It's not a requirement for me that we both like the exact same thing but it's good to know we might have some things in common.

i didn’t set my account on private, the Goodreads team did it because i‘m under 18 :(

Yes, I do sometimes! I get most of my friends through groups, so if we're in a group together, I'll add you whether or not your account is private. I always accept all requests too. The more, the merrier! However, I will say that it is helpful to know what books you've read/are interested in before I add you though.
