taylor | 50 comments sjm has the assassins blade first on her website- which is a good way to read it if you want the most context going into the series, but i read assassins blade after crown of midnight. some people also read it after heir of fire, so i think it doesnt really matter as long as you read it before queen of shadows. hope this helps❤️

faye | 232 comments i read it in release order and i think that’s the best way to go into it, tog is the best introduction to the story imo

cansın but johnson | 3 comments I saw a video and it was saying that the assasin’ blade should read after the 3rd book and before the 4th book. so if you read like that you get yield in the best way. but there are some people who reads before thone of glass. so I think it’s up to you🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

shania (hiatus) i recommend reading assassins blade first

jasmin | 170 comments I recommend reading it first, I just finished the second book in the series crown of midnight, and I think reading it first gives u all the context about the main character's past. I feel like if u read it third or fourth u might feel a little disconnected because of the time jump

I highly recommend reading Assassin's Blade first. I did and it made eveything better. I image myslef no doing that and I would have been so confused.

Madison Ives | 4 comments If you go to the sjm website and click on “about” there’s a frequently asked questions section. She mentions her preferred reading order is reading assassins blade 3rd (before heir of fire)

makaila🍵📚 | 4 comments I’ve heard if you want the more emotional route, read it after Crown of Midnight. But if you want the more chronological route, read it before Throne of Glass.

she definitely gets better keep going!! sjm wrote the first book when she was pretty young so it's more childish than the rest of the series but I PROMISE she has so much character development. there's a reason everyone in the fandom is loves her😌

CB | 89 comments I read it last so not the recommended ways lol but I would recommend. it eases the series hangover a bit and I like reading celeana so young and careless after everything. also there is little bits that you might recognise that you wouldn't if you read it first

Annie Rose | 125 comments id say read it first bc there’s a lot of references from it in all the books going further

Char :) | 111 comments I know this wasn't this question, but is it absolutely necessary to read the acotar series before tog?

nope. you can read them in any order, but if you're planning on reading the whole maasverse, i'd recommend reading crescent city after tog and acotar.

victoria (acciotoria) i tried starting TOG and felt like i was thrown into the middle of the story and after a few chapters it just wasn’t clicking. so i put it down and read assassin’s blade and it made everything make perfect sense when i went back to TOG. but i’ve put it back down to finish A Little Life lmao
