Hey everyone! So the BotM is The Hobbit!
We will be group reading and discussing the book here. If you choose not to read the Hobbit with us this month & have read it before, feel free to discuss it with us anyway!

This is perfect timing. I literally received 3 hard cover copy's of the Hobbit during Christmas lol one that was part of the harper collins LOTR box set, one 75th anniversary addition, and 1 collector's edition
Sooo…. Does anyone have thoughts on the first few chapters of the hobbit? For my part, I really enjoy the descriptive imagery in ch. 1 😌
Hi All. I just wondered if everyone is aware of the fundamental change to the Riddle Game that JRRT made to later versions of The Hobbit once he had made the Ring the link between this book and LotR. That change is alluded to in the introduction to LotR when he talks about Bilbo not initially telling people the true story of how he found the Ring and putting the incorrect version into his There and Back Again diary, which Frodo never changed despite being told the correct story very early on by Bilbo. If you search online for it you can find pages with the two versions of Riddles in the Dark side by side with the differences highlighted. This is obviously not remotely necessary to enjoying the story, but if you are interested in how the stories developed in JRRT's own mind it is worth knowing about.

I knew there were a lot of revisions to The Hobbit, but idk if I'd heard of that specifically! I will have to look into that, it sounds very interesting.
