An Optimist's Guide to Heartbreak is the first book in the Heartsong Duet so you are already pretty sure it will end in a cliffhanger. And it does. But fortunately the last half of the duet, A Pessimist's Guide to Love, is available if readers want to continue the story.

Lucy and Emma were best friends and her big brother, Cal, was Lucy's first crush. But something happened to Emma, and Lucy and Cal's families moved away. Now Lucy has purchased Emma and Cal's old house and she ends up getting a job at his auto shop. He's not very friendly but Lucy won't take no for an answer. It was obvious there is lots of history, and heartbreaking circumstances, just waiting to be revealed.

This was a quick, easy read that made me laugh several times, but there's nothing new here. Hot guy, hot girl, simmering love for years, etc. Because I didn't find out what happened to Emma and I hate cliffhangers, I'll probably read the second and final book next month. Both are available free on Kindle Unlimited if you have a subscription. As these type of romances go, this wasn't bad.
