Again, another poem that is better listened to than just read. I had to look up what co'n pone was. It's cornbread. I thought so.
This poem highlights life and traditions of the African American community. Life was challenging, but food was good! Food = happiness! Also, Dunbar has the ability to make his reader feel right at home within the poem. You can almost feel the heat of the oven and smell what's cooking.
