In this poem, the narrator is telling Lucy that she cannot learn to sing like Malindy because when Malindy sings, amazing things happen. Lucy is a white mistress who makes a lot of noise and she never heard of Malindy; but if she did, she could never be as good as her bc some people are just born with the natural ability to sing that well. And the remainder of the poem provides visual evidences for how beautiful Malindy's voice is and what it is capable of doing to nature and other people.
