Plot sounds like Hoot by Jane Hissey, except the animals are stuffed, and they live together, it's not a sleepover.

Boots Sleeps Over by Sara James? Here's an image - www.ebay.com/itm/BOOTS-SLEEPS-OVER-Sa...
Arthur's First Sleepover (Arthur Adventure Series) by Marc Brown?
Franklin Has a Sleepover by Paulette Bourgeois?
Laina, where the animals typical house-pet type animals? Or more exotic animals?
Were the illustrations...realistic, cartoony, funny, sunny/dark/pale colors, hand drawn, painted/watercolors, etc.?

None of those, sorry. Like I said, cats and dogs and such. Anthromorphic, but not super cartoony, like they wrote pajamas and stuff. Vibrant colours. Not watercolours or clay or obviously sketchy. Probably hand-drawn or painted, I'm not an artist XD But I don't remember them being super obvious.
I don't think there was any "main" character.
My mom thinks the series title was something like "playtime pals" or something with "pals" in the title. She remembers me having them most of my life, as early as 2.
Laina, what country were you in? The way you spelled "watercolours" made me think it could be from a specific country.

The one I remember most was about these animals that had a sleepover (obviously). Cats and dogs and stuff, but very anthromorphic, like nightgowns and pajamas and stuff. They hear a noise in the night and everyone sneaks downstairs and find out it was only one of their friends or something like that. There may be cookies at the end? I think I had several books by the same author, and I think it was all the same series, but I don't remember if it was like a whole thing about sleepovers or what, but it could have been.
The time frame would have been early to mid-90s at latest, since I was born in '92 and I had the books before I could even read, and I started reading around 4. Any guesses?
