SOLVED. Middle Grade fiction book about solving mysteries and riddles being involved. [s]

I don't remember much of the plot just that it involved pre-teens trying to solve a mystery. The front cover was pretty colourful and hooked me. I vaguely remember the titles of the series. I think it had something to do with warning people to NOT read the book which made people WANT to read it. IIRC one of the books had a recipe at near the end (not sure what though lol). The main characters were a boy and a girl if I'm sure.

Can you rule out A Series of Unfortunate Events? The book summaries always try to discourage readers from reading the books.
