Cassandra Hostetler | 2 comments Read the book to my preschoolers in the late 80s or early 90s. I think the book's title, or the only character in the book, is Miss.... or Mrs..... and then a hard-to-say name. Or she has an incantation she says that is unusual and fun to read - (not Hocus Pocus or something similar) She wasn't labeled as a witch but it seemed that she was given stirring a pot over the fire, etc. The thing I remember the most was the illustrations - all in shades of black and greys with pops of white.... so unusual for children's picture books that are usually bright colors.

Cassandra Hostetler | 2 comments I remembered it! After spending all day yesterday agonizing, it suddenly came to me today! It is Mrs. Biddlebox by Linda Smith, illustrated by Marla Frazee. She's having a horrible day... uses magic to make a potion.... I'm buying it from AbeBooks!
