My goodness it’s been a long while since I’ve read this one. 25-30 years? I’m in. Downloaded to my kindle.
I read the first 10% of this today and so far it reminds me of a much more adult, maybe more sophisticated, Robert Louis Stevenson adventure story. I instantly realized that I recall next to nothing from my first read of this novel. It’s easy to see why it’s garnered so much attention through the years and why I’ve certainly quoted it without knowing exactly what/who I was quoting. Passages here have become part of the vernacular. The initial rough traveling coach with danger lurking in the fog was a great scene. The broken bottle of wine on the cobbles is a great scene. I’m finding subtle humor here and there, at least for me. So far it is a treat.
