Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 839 comments General note from the Mods about direction,

For directions, think to yourself... would I say to someone

"to get to X's house you.... blah blah"

So would you say "under"? I would say yes. ... "head left and go under the X bridge"...

If we are talking Hansel and Gretel or Red riding hood :D

Maddy | 625 comments Also, I seem to have forgotten this. Do mini books also count for cards or are mini books separate?

And okay, I will aim for mini tasks ;)

message 155: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments A book can count for both the main tasks AND mini tasks. Sometimes a book will only fit one or the other, and that’s absolutely fine too.

message 156: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Now that we’re just over half way through…..

Have you read any great books so far this month? I don’t tend to read books I don’t like, so all of mine have been good reads. The one I’m currently reading (sorry no links - I’m on my phone again!) is a romance called Do Your Worst by Rosie Dann, featuring an archaeologist trying to come back from a career destroying betrayal and a cursebreaker who’s trying to create a business from her family gift. I managed to get a third of the way through it doing bedtimes with the kids, it’s that good!

message 157: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 625 comments Well... I just read a horrible one. Does that count? :D

message 158: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Well it’s clearly memorable, if not for favourable reasons, and now I really want to know what it is!

message 159: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) | 102 comments I just finished The Rook which I thought was a lot of fun. I'll describe it as a thriller with tongue planted a bit on cheek.

I also read the third book in the The Final Empire series. Highly highly recommend it if you like good fantasy with worldbuilding and complex characters.

Hey Jax, can you please add in the sentence and page/location from this book which can be used for a mixer in the mini challenge, as you had pointed out? Thanks! :)

True. But, if we can use the same book for the regular cards and the mini, that is one less book to read at the end. ;=)
Given that we have 40 Mini prompts, I bet we can find something in each of the next 40 read books. HAHA! :p

Ha ha, it was The Mist :D
It is quite bad. Vague, all hint-hint-nudge-nudge, past-present snippets, the MC's family drama is just disgusting and does not show her in a good light at all, and it needs content warnings. A lot of them.

Ah yes, Nordic Noir and I don't really get along - it's a bit too dark for me. Which is why there's all the CW I guess!!

message 164: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 625 comments It is a hit or miss for me. I like Nordic mystery and thriller fiction in general, but some just don't do it justice :D

message 165: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments I completed The Girl with the Louding Voice and updated the spreadsheet. This book was recommended by a friend and I gave it 5 stars, definitely a good book!

I added In Cold Blood to the spreadsheet. Since Kelly read it we can use it as a Reverse too. I'm going to listen to the audiobook. It will be my one non-fiction book for this month.

message 166: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Every year I say this. I wish we could like other people's comments in chat!

My question for the day:
Does anybody have any books/series/authors that are a guilty pleasure?

I am currently using my Kindle Unlimited sub to reread the Sweet Valley High series. The first 12 aren't on KU but i have some very generous and helpful friends who let me borrow their library cards so I could. I'm old enough to have read the early ones in primary school as they were being released. I also bought them when I was a teen. I have read every single SVH book ever released and they're actually quite sweet but super ridiculous. I even use them for Uno if they hit the page/word count lol.

Yup. Definitely. Mine might be J.D. Light.
Whenever I am feeling low, I reread their short, sweet books. They are so full of hope, that they calm me and make me feel better :)

That would be the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
Anytime I feel like I need a book that could make me LOL, that is the series that I inadvertently reach out for. :-)

Becky (velvetspade) | 62 comments Hi Team - I have an apology to write. I've been a bit out of touch over this last week. Long story short, I had go out of town twice to deal with something and I wasn't able to bring a computer with me so it's been incredibly hard to update and comment with you all. There is no reason I should be gone again so I'm hoping by this time next week you've all forgotten about my absence.
Thanks for understanding 💕

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments Hi Book Friends!

Just finished The Song of Achilles and updated the spreadsheet. It looks like a lot has been updated on the mini spreadsheet. I noticed the directions area is completed already and the book I listed there before is removed. I know we can still use In Cold Blood as a reverse though so hopefully that is still helpful when I do eventually finish it.

Can we get an overall update on what we are still missing/needing for Feb reads and the mini?

I might be able to select one more book to read this month and I want to make sure it counts towards what we need most.

Hey Jo, I moved "In Cold Blood" from the directions mini, because the "in" in this case unfortunately wasn't a direction indicator since the whole title (In Cold Blood) is a phrase in its own.

But, we absolutely will use every single read book to fit in some how.
I just added your "Song of Achilles" in the mini for fruits because I remembered that there is a reference of figs in there. :-)

message 185: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Our sheet is looking so good! Thanks Apoorv for highlighting what we need to complete for the mini - I’ve just finished a book and spent ten minutes scrolling through for a mention of a mixer. Luckily I’d completely missed a reference to coke lol.

I know I still have three books to read for the mini. I’m happy to be replaced if anyone reads something that fits those before I finish. We still have about a week to go, but the completionist in me would rather see it finished than hoard it all for myself!!

Haha! But honestly, we are into the last week of a short month and we are already looking to complete everything on our plate in the next few days. That is nuts!
You folks just gobble books up and you need to get checked. Hehe! :P

We have 12 books to go to complete all 15 of our hands.
And I was able to move books around, so all the remaining letters are not crazy at all.
Woot! Woot! :)

And the mini?!
Pshaw! CRUSHED IT!

Up for Grabs
- Book with a mixer in it.

Claimed and need completion
- Apoorv | Our Wives Under the Sea
- Emily | Confessions
- Jax | Everywhere an Oink Oink: An Embittered, Dyspeptic, and Accurate Report of Forty Years in Hollywood
- Kelly | Pretty Jane and the Viper of Kidbrooke Lane: A True Story of Victorian Law and Disorder: The Unsolved Murder that Shocked Victorian England
- Kelly | #Murdertrending
- Kelly | Bayou Moon
- Maddy | Honey Mead Murder

If you think you are not going to get to it or if you are not feeling like it, just drop in a word and we will find another book that fits.
If your book fits one of these tasks that are claimed by others, mention that too, so it eases the pressure on the claimants to complete their book.

Long story short,
YOU'LL ARE AWESOME!! :=D

Question: If we start a book now but don't finish until March will it count for March?

Absolutely does, as long as it is finished after March 1, 9am UTC.

And to that point,
March tab is up and ready on the tracking spreadsheet for everyone to start planning their books, if preferred.
