Seconding Anne of Green Gables! It's a great read, and much more entertaining than I feel like people give it credit for.

Up The Down Staircase
Gone With The Wind then read Scarlett
The Whipping Boy
Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn

Brian Wilson Aldiss - Heliconia series
Robert Anson Heinlein - Starship Troopers
Stephen King - IT

Romance - pride and prejudice
Gothic - Frankenstein, picture of Dorian grey
Sci-fi - twenty thousand leagues under the sea, war of the worlds
Crime/thriller - crime and punishment, any Agatha Christie
Fantasy - Dracula, heart of darkness, lord of the rings
Speculative/genre hybrid - Around the world in 80 days
Historical - Iliad, odyssey, Greek tales
Religious - inferno (catholic/christian)
I hope these help ☺️💕
