Just finishing up the shorts in Small Magics now--read Swine and Roses and was very thankful (view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 21012 comments Finished Small Magics with Grace of Small Magics--getting to like these little snippets that show bits of the rest of the world--how different people have adapted to the magic/tech wave new status quo, and what magics people have developed. Another cute little romance, with a dark twist. And wasn't (view spoiler)

Conlan is around 8 years old in the Wilmington Years, I think?

And Derek & Julie take a circuitous route...

Read the last shorts from Small Magics today:

Of Swine and Roses... I liked this little YA romance snippet... powers can be OP when you don't need to revisit them after about 15 pages :D -- in this day and age, I'd call it Social Distance Magic...

Grace of Small Magic... it sounds like the definition of small magic is warped here... another nice little romantic shortie... this reminded me of alot of elements of Kate Daniels, Hidden Legacy, The Edge, Kinsmen Universe, etc... all mashed together...

Erin | 385 comments Jumping in this thread to join in on reading On the Edge! This is one that synopsis alone probably would not have gotten to pick me up but I absolutely adore Hidden Legacy so I've been wanting to read their other stuff and I've been dipping my toes into urban/paranormal fantasy this year a little bit already which is out of the norm for me

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5357 comments Fell behind on Kate Daniels since I couldn’t get audiobooks on any after book 6. Just finished book 9. Really good set up for book 10. Reading Hugh’s book now. He’s so annoying. I remember loving him so much by the end of it but right now I want to stab him.

I picked up the last few I was missing from my Audible Library during the sitewide sale... slowly but surely getting all my faves on there for future re-reads...

Yea... Hugh is a character I could easily go either way on...

Meant to make a new thread for The Edge... running late... gonna do that now... The Edge is definitely the closest Ilona Andrews has ever come to writing a normal/contemporary story, i think...

Yes. It’s a stand alone series.

You can read every series/thread other than the Kate Daniels thread, without reading Kate Daniels... all the series that require KD are being done in the KD thread...

Kate Daniels
Iron & Magic / Iron Covenant
Gray Wolf / Aurelia Ryder
Sanctuary
Kate Daniels: Wilmington Years

All that stuff is/was done in the KD thread...

The Edge
Hidden Legacy trilogies
Innkeeper Chronicles
Kinsman Universe

All this stuff is being done in separate threads and is safe to read on it's own...

message 624: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 21012 comments Though there are crossovers between the Edge and Innkeeper books--I read Innkeeper first and missed out on the connection to the characters the first time, but it's not necessary to read them... are there other crossovers?

message 625: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Finished Magic Shifts and I'm excited to start book 9. I'm super sad the main series is almost over though.

Your comment in the other thread reminded me to make the August thread... I just replied to that...

There will be one more thread for Innkeeper Chronicles in September, unless I decide to recycle the Edge thread, since some characters carry over (leaning that way now, actually)... will be Hidden Legacy trilogies in August/November, Innkeeper Chronicles in September/October + Kinsmen Universe, and Wrap-up in the KD thread in December...

I'm leaning towards just re-using the Edge thread, since George, Jack, Gaston, and Sophie/Lark carry over in book 2+...

Ilona Andrews sold Maggie to Tor last month... releasing in 2026... sounds pretty awesome, now that I/we have some idea what the plot/premise is:

https://ilona-andrews.com/wp-content/...

"epic fantasy romance saga that blends elements of heroic fantasy, romantasy, portal isekai, and D&D"

That announcement image says Game of Thrones meets Outlander, and the more I read, the more accurate that managed to be...

Real world person sucked into an unfinished dark fantasy world that she knows the lore of very well from re-reading while waiting for the finale to release... unable to die, but super attached to the friends she makes and trying to keep them alive...

Expected release, first quarter 2026, with at least one more book to come, and maybe some more either with same MC or side characters...

Twice the page count of Magic Bites... there's a Q&A on the author website from the day after the announcement: https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/maggie...

Ooh, that sounds fun! Makes me think of How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying but maybe with less trying saucy humor... also just the idea of being sucked into a story that you know is interesting...

Also think using the Edge thread for Innkeeper is wise.

I think the Q&A also confirms Blood Heir / Aurelia Ryder #2, Iron & Magic #2, and Innkeeper Chronicles #6 are still in the pipeline for Fall 2024 & throughout 2025...

I think they're editing Maggie right now, then have a year to write their self-published commitments while Maggie goes through the publication pipeline, then they need to get to work on Maggie #2 for release in late 2027 or 2028... they say they want Maggie #2 to release less than 2 years after Maggie #1...

When they don't have COVID, anyway... and post-covid fatigue...

It's kinda important... Andrea and Raphael resolve their issues and mate and become official Bouda Beta couple, which plays into following book a bunch... or you could call that enough, I guess...

it's one of my fave first half books, with the Andrea & Ascanio stuff...

Ann-Marie gave up on KD due to family stuff in March/April/May, and seems to be trying to catch up in spare time, now, after enjoying Edge well enough, and loving Hidden Legacy (I think)... Hidden Legacy is definitely one of the better series/trilogies to hook people with, I think... tightly written, clear improvements as writers, firm 3 book ending (for first sister anyway), and alot of characters to love...

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments I love Hidden Legacy so much. I really want an Arabella trilogy.

message 647: by Ann-Marie (new)

Ann-Marie | 5449 comments I read Gunmetal Magic and I enjoyed it but I wish there had been more Kate & Curran in it lol I am trying to plan the rest of August now, listening to Ringworld now since my book club is this Sunday, most definitely going to be starting The Stand early, not sure if 7 days or less yet. I should have enough time to listen to the next in this in August still, plus I have a Hoopla borrow left....

If you get ahold of the ebook for Gunmetal magic, there's a short story/novella at the back, that covers what they were doing throughout the book (the first visit to the vikings and the Draugr)...

Arabella trilogy definitely feels in the cards, now, but I doubt we see it before 2027...

With the Maggie announcement, I think we'll get Iron & Magic 2, Innkeeper Chronicle 6, Blood Heir / Aurelia Ryder 2, maybe Sanctuary 2, Maggie 1 released and Maggie 2 written, and then she can start working on Arabella or other stuff while Maggie 2 is in publication pipeline for a year...
