Trying to find the name of a book about a magical glove

Trying to find a fantasy book/first book of a series that I used to read over and over again when I was younger. It's been a good 10-ish years so I might not be remembering correctly.. I think it was about a boy who lived with his grandfather/father, who sent the boy to a city to sell a magical glove/gauntlet (or simply gave it to him, don't remember as I mentioned).
