Yeah the setup is confusing - I figured we would have multiple books for cocktail names as it said so there would be a space that says cocktail name by it. Word used you do the dropdown of the element like cover color, title, text, etc. We could just put the cocktail invented names by each books - they are to used for, maybe two to three per book?

I think you would just use one attribute from the book -- looks like you're choosing name from story, assuming that's Thimbletack?

We would then have to find a book with 'sweet' and 'revenge' either in the book/series title, cover object, possible author or character's name (I don't thing the others would apply -- setting, cover color)

So we'd put Thimbletack's Sweet Revenge under list your cocktail's name, but in the word section we would have 3 rows that say "thimbletack", "sweet", and "revenge."

Hopefully that made sense.

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Wow so I seriously misunderstood part 2 of the mini and wow this is actually quite hard then!

But I won’t give up! I just need to find a book for sweet and a book for revenge!

Thanks for your help Erin and Sam!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Hm, don't thank me too soon (You are welcome of course!! :D ) -- but I am confused now as well

Do we invent cocktail names creatively, or do we use existing cocktail names that are genuine and creatively match books to it?

message 355: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Erin after my confusion and your and Sam’s comments I went on the captains group to check out the conversations the captains have been having about the mini challenge so I’ve got a better idea of the challenge now.

And long story short you can do either. Create your own cocktail names or use existing ones.

For the one I’ve made I think Sweet Revenge is a real cocktail or there’s some variation of it that really exists.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Ah okay, thank you for clarifying! So either works, which is good to know. :)

message 357: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments Kadi- Here are the details on this in the mini challenge tab-
I think yours count according to the details listed here.

Part Two

After several cocktails, a lot of us tend to get a little creative - some more than others. Then again, a selection have shown their poetic prowess even before the challenge began and possibly without cocktail-influence.

Here is your chance to shine (again), now that you've drunken a multitude of cocktails: create your own cocktails!

You can use anywhere between two and six elements from your books to create a name for your cocktail along the lines of what the mods have done for the team names.

These are the elements you can choose to use from your books - any combination of these works:
- book title
- series title
- author name
- item on cover
- cover colour (no matter how much of it is found on the cover as long as one can actually detect it with the naked eye)
- name from the story (any character or named creature, you could even use the cat's name if you like)
- setting of the story (can be the entire setting, can be the setting of a single scene, whatever works for your creation)

The names of your cocktails do not have to be villain/troublemaker inspired. You could create a Miss Piggy's Pink Umbrella if you wanted. Or a Little Miss Sunshine's Bellini.

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Hi Jennifer, thanks for reposting it on here, saves me having to keep going on the other page to check the rules. As Sam and Erin have explained to me I sadly need 3 books to make my cocktail, but not to worry because I’ve started one and I’ve find another so it’s only one more to go that I need to find to fit it in.

It’s a lot of effort so it’s a shame we don’t get more points for the cocktails!

When I posted the rest of the messages hadn't loaded, sorry. Im caught up now and see the rules. Yes, I think its alot more work for no points. I had some ideas and had posted but since deleted.

message 361: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments It’s ok Jennifer it’s actually helpful you posted it anyway.

Also share your ideas! I’d love to hear them even if we don’t end up using them but we might use them!
I think creating cocktails is such a fun concept, my only issue with it is that it would be easier if we could get a word from something that happens in the book instead of just names and book cover colours etc. it limits you so makes it harder and probably not worth only 10 points per book.

I had an idea for another cocktail something like Character’s Black and Blue Punch with the character being anyone from any of our books that is particularly aggressive or something.
Then the black and blue can be cover colours and the punch can be title name, series name, or authors name.
If anyone actually wants to put books forward for that it could be fun, so please let me know! I don’t want to overextend myself because I already have the other cocktail so I’m just putting this idea out there and I wouldn’t be able to contribute to it sadly

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Hey Erin I’ve moved your book Sauter to hand one to use as the draw 2 for cards 2 & 5, hope that’s ok! I’ve decided not to read the book I put down for that one as I’ve got 3 new books to read for this dastardly cocktail😂 thankfully I’ve managed to find 3 short reads (all under 150 pages!)

message 363: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Hey guys we’ve got 3 colours cards left: Skip Green, 1 Red, & Skip Yellow and we’ve got 1 Wild Draw 4 left so if anyone wants to claim them please go ahead😊

I’m super happy with our progress, I think this mini challenge has rejuvenated me😂

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Kadi wrote: "Hey Erin I’ve moved your book Sauter to hand one to use as the draw 2 for cards 2 & 5, hope that’s ok! I’ve decided not to read the book I put down for that one as I’ve got 3 new books to read for ..."

Yes, absolutely fine :)

message 365: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments @Eron awesome!

Also guys I’ve moved my book from 8 Blue over to claim the last Wild Draw 4 as it doesn’t have anything to fit the 8 part of the card but it does have a skip.

So that means the 8 Blue card is free if anyone wants to read towards it😊

message 366: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments I think I have one, Kadi! I'll double-check.

Sorry I was so quiet this week. I had a work trip and didn't get much down time at all. So looking forward to the weekend and reading!

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

I could move this book to 8 blue if we think its blue enough?

message 371: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments I'm working on transferring books from our planning sheet to the official sheet. Double check your books are marked as read and shelved on the Uno shelf. And if you finished it after the mini started, let's find a great spot for it! Section 2 allows us to be creative and make our own cocktails so everything should be able to find a home.

message 372: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) | 110 comments Captains, please fix the Hand Eight calculation for my book. It's got an error.

message 373: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 30 comments i think there's an error with a bunch of the green cards. noticed it on the feb tab too :)

also nothing much to say but just checking in to say reading has been going well this month!

message 374: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments Let me take a look! Some of the formulas have been feisty. Lol

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I have to start reading Killers of the Flower moon, took a reserve spot for it as found Jennifer read it, and also it fits into a mini. I should make good progress over the next 5-6 days on finishing my remaining reserved books.

message 376: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Have you watched the movie of it Erin? Apparently it’s really good

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I have not yet and want to wait until after I read it :)

It was chosen for my next month's book club read and I had bought the audio on a sale the past few months, so hoping I like it

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I finished my Green book Boy Toy and updated, halfway through my blue book on Consigned to death and will have finished today. Started Killers of the Flower Moon as well and should have that one done by Monday (mainly audio)

message 379: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments You are on a hot streak, Erin! I plan to knock out some serious reading this weekend. I have a couple of drink ideas, too.

message 380: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments I’ve finished my third read so that’s our first cocktail complete and made!
I’m now reading my 2 Green book then I’ll be hoping to finish my WD4 book.

@Michelle I think we should highlight the books we can use for cocktails on the spreadsheet or add some sort of indicator and then get creative because we probably already have a few books people have read that aren’t going towards part 1 of the mini

message 381: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Also guys we’ve got 2 coloured cards left: Skip Green & 1 Red.

If anyone has already read a book that could match those please let us know or if you have one you are planning on reading that would fit. We’ve still got plenty of time!

message 382: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Hey guys so I tried to have a go at finding the books read after 15th March that are not being used for part 1 of the mini and then I’ve come up with some cocktail names.

The Duke’s Mislaid Bride’s Candlelit Grave

The Duke & I Michelle 17-Mar-2024
Mislaid in Parts Half-Known Mimi 16-Mar-2024
The Beast's Bride Namita 21-Mar-2024
The Book of Candlelight Jennifer 16-Mar-2024
On Her Father's Grave Namita 19-Mar-2024

Death’s Dead Hand
Consigned to Death Erin 22-Mar-2024
Finlay Donovan Knocks Em Dead Sam 19-Mar-2024
The Hand on the Wall Sam 16-Mar-2024

The cocktail names can always be changed if you guys don’t like them.
Please can everyone whose books are listed here confirm they started reading the book after the 15th March countdown timer thing for the mini

message 383: by Jennifer (new)

Names look great.
I did start after 15th. But any book started after Feb 1st can be counted. They just have to be finished after 15.03. Or why are you asking?

message 385: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments @Jennifer thanks! I was up for hours😩 I’m fasting for the Islamic month of Ramadan and I couldn’t sleep after I started my fast at sunrise. I was so tired but I still couldn’t fall asleep! Instead I read and organised the spreadsheet, although there wasn’t much to do because we keep it in good shape already and Michelle has worked on it recently

message 386: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Mimi wait really?! I did not know that😂🤦🏻‍♀️ guys please ignore me then! I guess that means all those books are good to be used for cocktails in part 2 then because they were all finished after 15th

message 387: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments Yes, that's great! I love the creativity.

This is going to be a marathon reading weekend for me. I'm looking for shorter books I can read in a couple of hours that will fill in blanks.

My book last night will fit one of the 7's. I'll look at skip green and 1 red this morning and try to make them fit with openings for the mini.

Hope you have a fun marathon weekend, Michelle

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments April cards on our sheet!

We have a few unclaimed cards for March, though. Let's try to get those covered over the next week. I'll send an email to remind the team to check in and claim what is still pending.

message 392: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Just to mentally prepare for April:

Wild Draw 4 cards are no longer in play. You get OVERLOAD cards instead!

◈ What are Overload cards?

Overload cards are also cover colour cards, BUT they require different colours.
The colours you can use for Overload cards are the following:

- purple
- pink
- orange
- brown
- grey
- white
- black

You can only use each cover colour once . They are worth 30 points and don't have to fit any letters, only colours.

message 393: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments I’m not sure if this is the first time they’ve ever done this, it wasn’t a thing the last time I took part in 2018, but this is very cool and very fun! Really excited to get into the April cards once we smash out March👏🏻

message 394: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Mar 23, 2024 05:39PM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I cannot remember when they released the cards for the next month last time, but they seem up soon! Great for just quick glancing, but yeah, I'm not planning any "planning" for awhile yet,

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Looks like 11 Reverses in April!

And a lot more greens than previous rounds

message 396: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments I agree Erin, it feels like they released it much sooner this month. Or maybe that’s just because February is a shorter month than March.

In any case we don’t need to plan for April right now because we’re still have a few spaces for March to focus on. Let’s get past those and then we can start dishing out the April cards
And yeah the April cards look scary like I might have to actually put effort in now😂

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments I'm knocking out books today and tomorrow to fill slots, but we are going to need some help on the mini to fit those cocktails! Let's get creative.

Some ideas:
For the president snow cocktail, we could maybe do a book with a president character, or snow on the cover, or the Hunger Games.
Mayday tuxedo - someone who goes to an event and wears a tuxedo, or maybe even published in May?
I'm looking for orange text on the cover right now for Annie Wilkes
Pennywise Fluffy Critter - need a red cover and maybe a clown, or fluffy animal on the cover?
Voldemort - snake on cover, snake in text maybe? Maybe an evil MC?

My last week will be working on finishing books I already have reserved here, which is plenty, or other challenges I have to sneak in - if read more will find a spot for them

Can go through my reserved books to see if that fit also if they have not been placed elsewhere

Edited - nevermind - see below I do plan on finishing this one as it's a short audio and already into it with my series, but it's an alligator of all things on the cover and not a snake - but the series is about supernatural river creatures that swim in the Alabama bayou and that includes with snakes and other creepy crawlies so maybe that would work if needed later for snakebite

As for PENNYWISE, It's funny but one book I wanted to read this month initially but pushed back to next month now would work for this because of the balloons on the cover and the horror ties. No promises or reserving but will see what I have left at end of week if no one else takes.

Besides the red balloon you have the yellow raincoat look like with IT's Georgie and the clown vibe with their outfits.

It's on Kindle Unlimited if anyone else has time to cover in case too

Moving it to snakebite. Started during bath tonight and it's adorable so far.
