Also that’s a lot of books! Do you read them all at the same time or one and then the next?

I always do read more than one book at once but havce different focuses on which to prioritize based on mood, ease, challenge. With Coal Miners Daughter that one I started this week as my one audio since I finished my other Monday, I generally do one audio at a time (but that varies too a little!), so this was a new add.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Since I have so many "planned" on there, will not add more unless it's a book that I have finished, otherwise I will get too unwieldy and in case someone finishes those spots first.

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments Seeing how you are moving books around makes more sense now. I am always so surprised to see how fast people are reading. I rarely read a book in less than 4-5 days but Ive had some travel and housework to get done so that helped with my audio books. Also None of This is True by Lisa Jewel was one I could hardly put down. Anyone read it yet?

message 157: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Feb 06, 2024 08:02PM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I haven't read that one, Jennifer, or that author. Glad it was good!
I just finished The Girl in the Ice, which I really enjoyed, and yesterday finished The Broken Girls, which I also really enjoyed.

I will add the girl in the ice, thanks for the recommendation. I have read most of Simone St. James and really like her writing. I think sundown motel was my favorite. I'm looking forward to her new one coming out this year.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Same!! I have it marked "waiting for release". I have read Sundown but need to read some more of her stuff

I'm glad it makes sense how I'm moving the books around. I'm pretty sure we're going to finish all the hands by the end of the month looking at the speed at which we're reading as a group, but I'm also conscious that you have to finish hands in order in order for their points to count. So my logic is to rearrange to finish top hands and make our way down.

I do know that some cards are harder to fill in so I'm leaving some books where they are for now so I don't move them up and then move them back to where they were because we have no alternative for them.

Mostly I'm just swapping an 8 book in hand 3 with an 8 book in hand 7 for example depending on which was finished first.
There's a method to the madness I guess😂

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Guys we are 1 card away from finishing hand 2 (a reverse card) and 2 cards away from finishing hand 3 (a 2 card and Skip Blue card).
Onto hand 4!👏🏻

I've finished my first read for the challenge, My Friend the Enemy, and it was fantastic! Highly recommend, it made me emotional, it was great.
Next I'm starting Cinder which fits nicely into three cards in hand 3.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Well, I am a bit new to Uno but it seems like we are moving along well! I finished the audiobook for Coal Miner's Daughter and added it as a standalone for O. Now starting a new audiobook for my current audio read. Finished Bitter Discord in the Jackie Leon series and now working on the second, Secrets and Ruin, both of which have been placed on the planning SS before the game started. This week due to other challenges I will be working on two previously unplanned but will be fun for Valentine's Day at least, No Exit (Which has been planned), and a digital library borrow mystery unplanned. Soon I will start working on the books planned in advance more to catch up --- including Crooked House very soon, which was a planned Red Cover card and it's been awhile since I read an Agatha Christie.

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments Don't forget that mid-month we will have a mini challenge, too! So if we can get those specific books out of the way now, we can have a lot more options.

I've never been on a team that couldn't finish all cards and every mini task before the end of the month. As long as we work together as a team and communicate, we are going to be in great shape!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) That's funny you're saying that as it did completely slip my mind that we would be getting mini's, actually. I think I'm so used to knowing about those in advance with tasks when the month starts with most team challenges --- that, or that I'm involved in so many fun team challenges right now that I'm staying 'enthused but confused' lol

message 165: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 30 comments Enthused but confused is a good way of putting it Erin! I'm just reading along :) Haven't changed game plan really for my current reading plans.

Yeah, I'll have to remember coming up with that phrase and apply it throughout life in the future :0)

I love this phrase too! It seems to sum up much of my projects right now. :)

message 168: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments I tend so read several books at a time, so it feels like Im not making progress but then I am done with a few at the same time. What do mini challenges look like?

message 169: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments I read a few at a time, too, Jennifer! Nothing, nothing, nothing, then boom, 4 finished.

The mini challenges fit the overall theme and are really fun! They mix up the parameters all the time so it's hard to say, but usually it takes teamwork and creativity to figure out who can do what for the tasks. Any books completed after the mini launches can be used for either the main cards or the mini, so we often move planned books to the mini and fill in the remaining cards on the main to make it all work.

message 170: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments I can’t wait to see what the mini challenge is this month!

message 171: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments I know, right? The anticipation is killing me! I can't wait to see what the mods have planned for us. It's always so creative.

message 172: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments Ok, thanks!! It does sound exciting! I feel like we are moving along nicely. I generally only read 1-1.5 books a week on average but I’m trying to pick up the pace.

message 173: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 30 comments Question on reverse: is this any book that another team member has read or does it have to be a book that they've used for Uno as well?

message 174: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments Read at any time, which really opens up the options!

message 176: by Namita (new)

message 177: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments Take a look at the first mini challenge!
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Remember, we can only count books we started after the beginning of the challenge (Feb 1) and ended after this time:
https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Very fun!

Books I have planned for this month that are not yet finished that also happen to work for a mini task and that were already on the Planning Sheet:

The Wakening - ◈ - Have an author's first name or surname starting with F, I, N or D (Faherty)
Three Mages and a Margarita - ◈ - Spirits (e.g., vodka, rum, gin, whiskey, tequila)

Really not a lot pre-planned on my end, but I do want to start more re-reading of the series Guild codex so may be able to fit in another book later before the month is over that could fit.

message 179: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments I feel like the hardest task is this one:
"Have black writing on the cover (and no other text with a different colour)"

Let's check those shelves!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Yes, you'd think that wouldn't be as difficult as it ends up being

message 181: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments @Samantha for reverse it’s any book another team member has read before, they don’t have to have read it for uno previously.
Michelle please correct me if I’m wrong!

message 182: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Feb 13, 2024 07:47AM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Planning for some books for the mini now.

message 183: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Feb 13, 2024 09:37AM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I removed one planned book, The Wakening, to make room for newly planned books and it wasn't taking up a special slot and can wait another time. Found out which books I already had planned on the spreadsheet worked for the mini and added the information.

I do have other books side planned I may get to that work but did not put on the planning SS to not take up more slots while I complete the ones I already have on there.

I added a short book that worked for Direction in Title to the planning SS and an audiobook I will start today that works for spirits since I have hardly any audiobooks planned this month

message 184: by nadine (new)

nadine | 40 comments excited for the mini! sorry if i've missed something - where's the planning spreadsheet for this challenge/do we have one?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) For now I just put how it fits for a mini under the Reason tab

message 186: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments @Nadine Just keep adding the mini part to the reasons box like Erin suggested for now and I’ll see with Michelle whether we’re setting up a separate tab on the spreadsheet for it.

Also we’ve finished hand 2 everyone! Hand 3 is also almost finished so onto hand 4!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Quick glance, looks like my name is accidentally in place of Jennifer's on the Official Spreadsheet for A House with Good Bones

No, you are absolutely correct! Sorry if my response was unclear.

message 189: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments Take a look at our planning sheet - the mini challenge is the second tab "Feb Mini". Claim your books and remember the book can be used for both the main cards in the challenge and the mini, but can't be used in the mini twice.

Hope that makes sense!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Thank you!

message 191: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 655 comments Hey Erin, I've just seen that your book choice for 1 Red doesn't fit with the card😞 In order to count as a 1 card it needs to be first in the series or have a character or location starting with the letter O. Right now the reason put down in the spreadsheet is that it is a standalone but that would mean it counts for card 0 not 1.
I know you haven't read it yet, so it's a something to keep in mind because it may not fit 1 Red if there is no character or location starting with O, which would be a shame!

message 192: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Feb 15, 2024 12:43PM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I probably was confusing 1 or O with standalone.

There is a character called The Old Man, and this is listed on the Goodreads Book Page as well under Characters - so would this work for Character Name O and stay in the spot?

message 193: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments Hey, I’m on my phone so I need to wait until I get home to be certain but I had added the book One puzzling Afternoon by Emily Critchley. I had added it to the spreadsheet early on but don’t see it now. I finished it yesterday was taking a look on my phone but don’t see it in there. Could it have been deleted?

message 194: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments ok, so I am looking again and I have no idea what happened but I thought I put my book into an 8 but it isn't there. I could have very well been my mistake.
I am looking for another slot and the book 1888:The Ripper file is in an 8 slot with alternates for cards 3 and 4 that I see are still open. Can we possibly move this book and place mine in the 8 card? Thanks!

message 195: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Feb 15, 2024 06:29PM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Your book is Blue also. I can move my Blue 8 and save for another month if we have to as well where I have Steelheart. I have not started that one yet and did not need for any other challenges yet

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I finished two books today and hoping to clear off a lot this weekend and by next Wednesday. February is one of those "short months" argh. Hope all are having fun.

I did the short but good Dead in the West this evening that works for a mini also, and finished off Dead Upon the Air which is just standard uno number fare.

Audiowise doing one that works with whiskey - when done with that in a few days, will switch to a black cover audio that will also work for mini (The Bog)

message 197: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Feb 15, 2024 06:37PM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Or, if I'm getting this right, perhaps the Wild Draw 4 spot in Hand 12 to duplicate the existing 8 Blue card

message 198: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 584 comments Yes, we can duplicate that Blue 8! Good thinking if you both want to read it.

Feel free to shift any of my books around to fit the cards - if you need the spot and we have an open slot for it, make the shift. :)

message 199: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Osting | 87 comments I went ahead and moved the books. Thank you!

Any response to this above?

I put one book in overflow that I finished today that we did not need as well in case it's ever needed
