We read this book in intermediate as a class, and I think it was based in New Zealand. This would have been 2007-2008. It was from the POV of a boy who I think moved to a new school, and he first meets the girl - Malorie (?) - in a school assembly of some kind. I remember there's two look-you-up-and-down snubbed scenes. The girl does it first, then he does it back to her. I think the girl was having some family problems, and they were at a house for some reason, and the boy came back into the living room to find the girl burning her palm on the lightbulb of a lamp. I don't remember anything else, not even how it ended. Hope this is enough. Thanks in advance.
