Violent and physically deformed is what I read about Richard III.

Laura | 30454 comments What is so interesting is how power, in any form, makes so many do anything to keep it.

message 403: by Grace =^_^= (new)

Grace  =^_^= | 33366 comments Exactly.

message 404: by Len (new)

Len | 3502 comments Yet I feel it is unfair to treat Richard as a despot when he knew he was fighting for his life against Henry Tudor and the rump of the Lancastrian nobility.

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Zealous efforts have been made to show that Richard III was not the villain portrayed by his enemies and that dramatist called William Shakespeare.

Very interesting about Richard III, but let's change the topic to something else. How about Steven Spielberg movies? I like ET. 🙂

Dumb and Dumber (1994) is a silly movie with Jim Carrey, but it's very funny.

message 412: by Mephisto (new)

Mephisto | 14777 comments Even though some people do not care for the Dumb and Dumber movie, I am one of those people who agree that it is very funny.

"Harvey" (1950) is a comedy/drama movie about a man who becomes friends with an invisible giant rabbit.

Grace  =^_^= | 33366 comments I haven't seen that movie.

message 417: by Laura (new)

Kiki's Deliveryn Service - directed by Hayao Miyazaki - is a fun animated movie that my kids loved when they were small.

Or we could talk about childhood ambitions; when I was 9, I wrote to the CIA to ask them how I could become a spy.

message 423: by Grace =^_^= (new)

Grace =^_^= | 33366 comments Playing the piano was an ambition that my mom had for me.

message 424: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Quite sure I was going to be a writer, but, alas, I only teach literature.

message 425: by Laura (new)

Laura | 30454 comments Really wanted to be a vet, but then I realized I would have to deal with jerks who are not taking good care of their pets and animals.

message 426: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Simply put, our dreams as a child rarely come to fruition.

Grace =^_^= | 33366 comments True, and sometimes we think "What was I thinking?"

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 35819 comments Mod
Undoubtedly, some people do fulfill their childhood dreams.

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Various boys want to be firemen when they grow up and actually a few do accomplish that goal.

message 430: by Laura (new)

Laura | 30454 comments Well, even as a grown up, I still like working with animals, so I volunteer and support our local animal shelter.

message 431: by Len (new)

Len | 3502 comments Xylophone playing by Patrick Moore, the amateur astronomer, inspired me but I still ended up as a civil servant.

Young men and women may dream of being professional athletes, but that's a very difficult goal to achieve.

message 433: by Len (new)

Len | 3502 comments Zoo Quest, I remember, was a TV series in the UK hosted by David Attenborough and I can't remember why it didn't inspire me to greater things,

message 434: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Anne Marie was my best imaginary friend as a child and she was the inspiration for many of my stories that never got published.

Books you read in childhood can influence your later choice of career.

message 436: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Children's books are great for teaching adults because they contain clear concepts that everyone can understand.

Dolls and trucks and building sets and other toys are great for firing the imaginations of children.

message 438: by Laura (new)

Laura | 30454 comments Every kindergarten classroom should focus more on free play and socialization, instead of academics and screen time, in my opinion.

message 439: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Forcing academics too soon can be counterproductive to a child's scholastic development.

Occasions like high school reunions can give people a chance to catch up.

message 449: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 115446 comments Perhaps so, but I never went to any school reunions.

message 450: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 35819 comments Mod
Quite often people don't go to school reunions but do go to family reunions.
