Janine Ballard (httpwwwdearauthorcom) | 108 comments Never deliberately. When I was a kid and brought home books from the library, my mom would often fix the spines of hardcovers with glue and straighten out the dog eared pages. She taught me to revere books.

message 102: by Bruna (new)

Bruna Galamba | 45 comments No. I like my books in pristine condition. I like to see my books and feel like I am in a book store: they look brand new. No spine cracked, no creases in the pages, no damage to the covers, no damage in the pages, no damage to the dust jacket, no damage to the bookmark, no sticky notes, nothing written with pen or pencil... That is why I never lend my books to people, I don't trust them to keep the books in the condition that I love.

Heathers_readss | 31 comments Only if they’re 600 pages and really stiff!! (Friend me!)

message 104: by Tanja (new)

Tanja | 315 comments The spine cracking happens only by accident but I'm trying to avoid it as good as possible. And I love my bookmarks

message 105: by Adi (new)

Adi Weber | 1 comments I do crack the spines... I adespise when I have to hold a book at a 35 degree angle to read it lol so, I crack within reason ;) I used to crack them a lot more but then I realized they just look so sad on my bookshelf otherwise. And absolutely not on dog-earring.

message 106: by vivxreads (new)

vivxreads | 65 comments sometimes the spine, but never the ear

message 107: by Kelli (new)

Kelli Absolutely Not! I can't even imagine doing either of those things to my books. When book shopping I try to find the floppiest copy that way there is no fear of breaking the spine and I have bookmarks everywhere so no dog earring for me.

message 108: by sage ౨ৎ (new)

sage ౨ৎ (urlocalswftie) im speaking my truth and that is im a spin cracker

message 109: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Cecil | 288 comments No, I use bookmarkers. And I would never crack the spine of a book on purpose.

message 110: by Madison (new)

Madison | 8 comments no and no

message 111: by Wyetha (new)

Wyetha (wyesreads) | 233 comments I don't dog-ear pages, but yes I've occasionally cracked the spine from reading. Several of my books are used, so that's already done before I even get to it.

message 112: by kayla (new)

kayla (kaylacallahann) | 101 comments no and no. it irks me

message 113: by sarah (new)

sarah | 306 comments I absolutely do not dog ear the pages, and no on cracking the spine but it might happen by accident. I hate the way the pages look with them dog eared, I agree with book markers even if you don't have one handy DONT dog ear plz.

message 114: by Kindle Jenner (new)

Kindle Jenner | 90 comments I read mostly on my kindle but if I read a physical book I crack the spine and dog ear pages. I’ll write in them too. I personally don’t understand wanting to keep books in pristine condition - I read it and it’s gonna be obvious I did. If there is a book on my shelf in mint condition, it means it’s just a trophy case book lol

message 115: by Scarlette (new)

Scarlette Ruiz (loriecona) | 1 comments Absolutely! It’s kind of a visual way of showing love to me? The more worn and torn it is, the more evidence that I liked the book. One of my favorite books I own has no cover, cracked spine in numerous places, severely dog earred, coffee stained, etc… controversial but I love my beat up books :)

message 116: by ali (new)

ali | 76 comments I don't crack the spine because that makes the pages fall out faster. :( And i do dog ear, but only when I'm re reading. It's basically tabbing but you don't have to buy the tabs. :D

message 117: by Diane (new)

Diane Schroeder | 14 comments No, on both accounts.

message 119: by Mary ♥ (new)

Mary ♥ | 44 comments Never, I want my books pristine. That's the great thing about ebooks, you can annotate as much as you wish.

message 120: by KGJR (new)

KGJR (kgjr9614) I don't do either. I like to collect books, so I try my best keep them in the best condition I can.

Charmeon Simpkins-Thomas (thepurplelibrarylady) | 6 comments no spine cracking of my personal books, but I may dog ear, if I can't find a sticky note or bookmark, a book I'm reading at school.

message 122: by Dallas (new)

Dallas Etmanskie (dallasetmanskie) | 4 comments I broke the spine once on the very first large book i had, to this day i regret it and will be buying a new one to replace the sadness. Dog ears... never. I love my bookmarks and would use a phone before i folded pages.

message 123: by Steffie (new)

Steffie | 31 comments I only really dog ear the pages when I don't have a bookmark but lately I have. I try not to crack the spine on new books idk why but I do for used books which already have cracked spines if that makes sense.

Venusisonthefloors🪩 (vedikaaaaaa) I don't crack them but nevertheless due using them so much it cracks itself but I don't prefer cracking cause it ruins the cover

message 125: by Kirby (new)

Kirby Broughton | 7 comments Noooooooo to both

message 126: by Zozunen (new)

Zozunen No on both, bc i could never

message 127: by Samia (new)

Samia Tasneem (semi-hiatus) | 20 comments Never. I love to keep my books as good as new!

message 128: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Silva | 12 comments i just dog ears pages when i was about 7 and didnt know better.
Cracking a spine? unimaginable and never speak of the day when i accidentally cracked one of my harry potter books :'(

message 129: by Nela (new)

Nela | 4 comments I do crack the spine because it's so uncomfortable to hold. (unless it's a floppy book) But I never dog ear my pages

message 130: by Abi (new)

Abi | 104 comments not going to lie I am trying to take better care of all my books but to be honest since all my books were shredded a while back I'm just thankful to have whole books again♡

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

I have never broken a book and I never will. I also would first go to hell before I dog ear a book. I just can't!!

message 132: by Mariah (new)

Mariah | 14 comments Cracked spines annoy me a lot so I don't intentionally crack the spines of my books. However, if the spines crack over time from how much I'm reading that book, I don't mind but if it gets over cracked and falling apart, I'll replace it.

message 133: by Kimiko (new)

Kimiko | 23 comments Never never never. Books should remain looking as good as new because eventually someone else may want to read it. Future readers don't need a book falling apart with pages falling out if you crack the spines. Same with dog eared pages; they eventually break off.

message 134: by Lilith (new)

Lilith Jane | 45 comments Nope on both. I like my books to be in pristine condition because I want them to look lovely in my shelf. And because I might sell them one day if someone is interested. Or I would gift them to my future kids if they want.

Even 800 page paperbacks I open carefully enough to not have one crack. It might be obsessive but I just get the ick when I touch the spine whilst reading and find a small crack there. It makes me uncomfortable.

message 135: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 5 comments Absolutely 100% a NO for both of those things. I cannot stand going to the bookstore and seeing that almost every single book spine is cracked and opened in one spot. It pisses me off. Also, do not get me started on dogeared pages. When I was a kid, I hated other kids who did that to books in the school library. It still is on my top 3 pet peeve list to this day

message 136: by Ana (new)

Ana | 2 comments Both. While I love the look of a new book, I’ll always crack the spines of my favourite books to be able to annotate them and just be more comfortable when reading.

message 137: by Michael (new)

Michael | 0 comments Books are sacred. Treat them like your baby.
