Priscilla Black | 46 comments I never dog ear the books. I use to but now I've stopped. As for cracking the spine, I generally don't do it.

message 52: by justine (new)

justine | 5 comments I also like to keep my books looking new. I never dog ear my pages, and I don't crack the spine unless it can't be helped. I love buying the pretty editions of books so maybe that's why :-)

message 53: by Torono (new)

Torono (mrtorono) | 22 comments Only if it’s a book I don’t really care for. And I will very rarely dog ear a page. When I want to remember something from that page and don’t have my phone or paper I can write on nearby.

message 54: by Barb (new)

Barb I do neither. I have a great respect for books.

message 55: by ✯~IRENA~✯ (new)

✯~IRENA~✯ | 22 comments I like to keep books looking new and as perfect as can be. I bring home books from the library and I hate when every few pages there's a bent corner. Use a bookmark please! 😭

message 56: by Casey (new)

Casey (casey_mc92) | 17 comments Nope. That's something that's always bothered me.

Natalie (Taylor’s Version) | 66 comments No and i will never do it

As I only read hardcovers, there's no need to crack the spine. Paperbacks have a smaller font which I never enjoyed. It's hard on the eyes.

message 59: by Aly (new)

Aly (lyanarty) | 42 comments I'll almost never crack the spine😨 even if its a really long paperback I'd still live with the uncomfortable-ness of it. O dont mind dogearing it as much though

message 60: by Heathers_readss (new)

Heathers_readss | 31 comments (Friend me!) not intentionally but if the book is extra stiff and hurting to push that pages open then yes I will crack that spike 🤣

disa⸆⸉ ౨ৎ | 19 comments I do both and with paperbacks I always break the spine and like bend it when I’m reading if that makes sense? hahaha

message 62: by Kiki (new)

Kiki | 23 comments no, it physically pain me ( i dont care if others do it, but not me)

message 63: by Kellye (new)

Kellye Filer | 1 comments I generally don’t crack the sound in my books, but it does happen. I try using that method of separating the pages and sliding my hands down to decrease the stress in the spine.

Clara 𐙚 🇵🇸 (clara17) | 275 comments No, but I used to dog ear the pages. Now I use book marks .

message 65: by Simone Mathers (new)

Nandini | 9 comments nope, I try my hardest to not crack spines and i don't dog ear pages, just not it for me

jayla (semi-inactive)-reading slump 🫩 No I don’t bend the spine of them. As for dog ears, it depends on whether I’ve run out of book marks. For the most part though, no.

message 69: by Avni :) (last edited Jan 05, 2024 04:48PM) (new)

Avni :) | 49 comments If I do either, I can practically hear my book's pained cries. In my eyes, it's murder!!!

I had no idea Amazon Kindle has a cap on how much you can highlight in a book, this is interesting. I haven't reached a threshold. I wonder why, at what point, and if they know.

message 74: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 5 comments ab-so-lu-te-ly not.
I( have respect for you when you do but I hate it the most in this world. Treat the books with respect.

message 76: by Andy (last edited Jan 06, 2024 09:08AM) (new)

Andy Allord | 14 comments A hard no on both... Actually I'll pass on a used book that has more than 2 dog eared pages.

Cracked spine, well sometimes that simply happens.

(I also tend to purchase hardcover first, paperback when hardcover is not available and even fewer e-books)

(looking for friends if anyone cares to add me)

message 77: by Elvira (new)

Elvira Bergquist | 28 comments I crack the spines always, but dog ears depends. I used to do them a lot, but then I realised how fragile the pages became after a few years, and now i find myself avoiding making them. If I’m without a bookmark and the book is in my purse, I’ll make an exception and fold the page.

message 78: by Arseni (new)

Arseni Kritchever | 1 comments Spine - sometimes, especially if it's a just a cheap or used paperback I don't intend to reread. Dog ears - never; always a bookmark!

message 79: by Malakai (new)

Malakai W. | 14 comments I read a book with a cracked spine once (library book) and it was the most awful experience ever. The book was magnificent it's not the books fault that a previous owner beat the crap out of it. I also don't dog-ear my books just to keep them in good quality.

message 80: by Kennedi (new)

Kennedi | 3 comments I don't dog ear but for paper backs I crack the spine in sections so it doesn't get those creases

message 81: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne | 9 comments Never! But then, I only read ebooks these days.

message 85: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 120 comments I don't dog ear them. With cracking the spines, I don't intentionally set out to crack the spines, but if it happens, I don't get upset. Cracked spines just show that the book is well loved

message 86: by Sam (new)

Sam | 45 comments Both of those things are a crime to me!! I open the book just enough so I can read to avoid cracking the spine I like my books to look brand new. But also because sometimes I sell those books I don’t like much so I want them to be in good condition lol

message 87: by Susan (new)

message 90: by Rim_reads (new)

Rim_reads | 80 comments No never

message 91: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Swartzel (shelby_reads2889) | 21 comments Not on purpose for either. I do Dog ear the middle of the book just cause I enjoy knowing when I'm at the half way point. If the spine happens to Crack, I don't mind. Adds more character to the book.

message 92: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I use several bookmarks in each book, tend to put a bookmark every 50 pages.

message 93: by Susie (new)

message 95: by Adventure Kate (new)

Adventure Kate Ok so harbacks/special editions/borrows from friends no but my own paperbacks - absolutely, yes. I kindof keep track of my favourite bits that way and have on occasion highlighted really good bits!

message 98: by Tasha (new)

Tasha (natachaalmeida) | 2 comments I could never do either. I train my spines and never leave without a bookmark of choice

message 99: by sophia (new)

sophia | 5 comments i much prefer bent out of shape and messy books on the verge of falling apart. my favorite book has tape holding the cover together, spine is broken and peeling, pages are warped, and it makes me love it even more <3 as for dog-earing...i prefer bookmarks.

message 100: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I underline important sentences in favorite books that I reread with a pen. But I keep my books.
