Got to love a museum, Sue. I will try to do at least 2 next year which I haven't been to before.

Happy New Year to all our members. Let's hope 2025 will be good and full of excellent reading.

Blaine | 2178 comments My notifications are back, after 5 days of silence at the "bell". The most likely reason is I logged out of the site and back in again, but who knows?

And the sun is shining again.

Hurrah - on both counts!

Susan_MG | 292 comments I think it was this thread where the “Transatlantic Tunnel” was mentioned. Newsweek has an article on current view of such a plan. “$20 Trillion Transatlantic Tunnel Would Be 'High Risk' Build”. Maybe feasible way, way, into the future.

Thanks Hester, that’s encouraging. I’m aiming to get back to my walking soon, assuming my health continues to improve, and I always used to listen to audiobooks as I was strolling along. So perhaps I’ll give it a go after all. I’ve also got Middlemarch on my list, which I had always put off just because of its length, but the other day RC (I think?!) was saying that was well worth it.

I'm not sure if I did suggest Middlemarch but would certainly endorse it - it's essentially high-class village soap opera so if you love Trollope, you'll love it! Perfect for listening while walking too.

Hester (inspiredbygrass) | 574 comments Help ! I dropped my old but serviceable Kindle on the floor and it is now deceased .

I'm looking for a new to me ereader/ tablet and compatible with Libby and Borrowbox , as I was constantly frustrated by the lack of dialogue between Kindle and these apps , used by my local libraries .

Any suggestions . I'm an android user ...nothing fancy as will mainly be used for reading .

Sorry to hear about your Kindle.

I dont know anything about these devices beyond that I have a Kindle, and an iPad for borrowbox.

message 761: by Blaine (new)

Blaine | 2178 comments I do the same as Nigeyb. I've had the same basic Kindle for about 10 years and I'd replace it with another bottom of the line model if mine broke or finally wore out. Love the size and the battery life, and my tablet is good for everything else.

Ditto from me. I love my Kindle Paperwhite and Oasis but the basis version looks so good now that the extra money is an indulgence.

I use my phone for Libby and Borrowbox as I mainly borrow audiobooks from my library but can read on it if they have a book I'm desperate to read immediately.

Good luck - I hate it when a device breaks and I'm left stranded!

If you'd like to do it as a buddy read, and don't mind waiting till July or later, I'd be happy to join you. I've not read it for several years and would like to read it this year or next.

G, I'd suggest you post this on the buddy reads thread as well to see if anyone else would like to join you. You only need two people to run a buddy and I can set up the threads for you if Susan_MG agrees and you have a date.

I know that book pretty well so am unlikely to re-read but will happily join any discussion.

I can't find the buddy reads thread.
GR must have changed something, because I can no longer find a lot of threads, if they didn't happen to have been commented on in the last 12-24 hours.
