It's a huge shift in plot direction. I've come across readers online who hated it, but after I read a ways I started to come round. On the whole, I thought it was a very effective homage to Blackwood-like story-telling.

Same! Currently half way through
Love it so far"
I'm liking it as well.

That was how I felt about that one!

I've been on a waitlist for The Inmate

Exquisite Wickedness: Two Murders and the Making of Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”
…and found this waiting for me in the mail when I got home!

Poems Dead and Undead ed. by Tony Barnstone.
Really enjoying both so far.

I visited there many years ago! It was memorable. My college friend and I went to his gravestone at night and put the coins on it haha
I'm finishing our group read this week, Nestlings, and just found out that Tales from the Gas Station: Volume One is on Kindle Unlimited! woohoo
It's the last book for my 2024 Horror Song Challenge (I only did 5 but it will still feel like an accomplishment to me Lol)

Hope you enjoy! I loved both of those--very different!

Finished
Lots and lots of bugs, creepy, crawly, flying, stinging, bugs... LOTS of them.
Makes me want to wear a Hazmat suit and carry a giant can of Raid whenever I go outside. LOL

I read that one a while ago. Did you enjoy it? I remember being on the fence, then I loved the complete turnaround in direction it went with the MIL

I read The Inmate in the beginning of May!

I read it this month also! It was okay....the MC bothered me because she's a nurse practitioner but acted pretty dumb in many respects. It was still a page turner!

I'm still early into it.

I'm in the process of reading all of Barker's work in (roughly) publication order. I haven't gotten to this one yet so I'll be interested to hear how you liked it.

His protagonist, Jennifer "Jade" Daniels, might be the ultimate final girl. In spite of occasionally getting a bit lost in her (and his) encyclopedic knowledge of slashers, I found the trilogy hard to put down. Very short review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I've read 12 of the one-offs she mentions and agree they are good, though I have less enthusiasm for a few than she does. And the 8 or so authors she mentions specifically strikes me as spot on.
Had to DNF
by Tim Lebbon
I'm giving up on his books after the last few I've tried just haven't worked for me.
